Bidirectional tires... could they be an issue
someone over on vtxoa recently re-posted the video below and while I was watching it it occured to me that bidirectional tires on a bike could lead to issues in wet weather. The tread on the left side (as watching the video) is fine, its the tread on the right side that could cause an issue when leaning to that side as it would push more water to the middle of the contact patch instead of away from it... is my thinking incorrect.. has this been disscussed before..

In all the years that people have been going darkside, no one has ever had a problem with this and most tires are bidirectional. Going darkside really shines when its raining outside.

OK would a directional tread pattern offer better traction in wet weather then a bidirectional tread pattern. Just so you know I am not anti CT I rode with a CT for more the 10K miles prior to swicthing back because I wanted WWW.

Re: Bidirectional tires... could they be an issue
IMHO, "uneducated" opinion, I'd say that there isn't a problem probably due to a.) soft rubber, b.) long, oval contact patch in leans, and c.) not usually
enough speed to create a hydroplaning situation. Nuts I be on the dry, I surprised myself a few times scraping boards in the rain - no fear of lift whatsoever -
just a respect for grease, oil, or whatnot mixed with water that could slide even a CT.

I had a bidirectional tire as my first DS on my Shadow a few years ago. Absolutely no issues. Got caught in pouring rain more times than I care to remember. Still outperformed a MT by a LONG shot!
