I need vidoe of tire... Empty I need vidoe of tire...

Post  Caballo Loco Tue Feb 19, 2013 2:49 pm

Hello brethren!
I have a friend planning to join the Dark Side but he is a bit undecided. I saw a video once (I don't remember if it was on this board) showing the CT flexing when turning corners. Someone put a video camera down there and filmed all that. If anyone has that link, please pass it to me. I am sure it could convince a fella about what a CT can do.
Thanks

The tire doesn't flex. When you turn, you ride on the curve of the tire. One reason why we look for tires with more rounded edges.

This is a Michelin Alpin on a Goldwing 1800, it shows the side wall flexing nicely. I believe he is running 32psi.

I don't think his slow cruise around the 'hood makes for a very comparable video; plus it wasn't flexing so much. I've often thought that most
of these vids have too much air in the tires. I'm sure some flex more than others, and from the wet footprints (like riding out of the wet onto
dry roadway), I see a LOT of contact patch. The Vredestein and Austones aren't very rounded and have to be flexing to leave marks that wide.
I observe other CT's from the inside of a curve and flexing shows much more than the cameras seem to capture.
Regardless; we all have superior traction over MT's.
Anyone who thinks we ride on the sidewalls needs to look at one on a bike that is ridden hard. My front chicken strip is only about 1/4" - but
on the back, the rubber mold nipples are still on the sidewall; proving that the tire flexes.
