First pictures of new Altimax
205.60.16 on my V Star 1300.
I feel much more confident in the curves with this tire than I did with the factory tire. Started with 32 psi, then moved up to 38 psi, and after maybe 150-200 miles, I love it! I can't believe how well I can heel into the curves, 1 up and 2 up. I feel like I can dig into a curve and really keep it steady and solid. My wife said she was getting a little nervous at times because I was taking some of the curves a little faster than I did before. Below are a couple of pictures and you can see how far I was able to lean. Sorry the pictures aren't the greatest, but I will get out and post more later.
Thanks for all the info!

Oh yeah...I did play with the brake a little, but not two up. I could still lock up the rear brake without much effort, but I have an extended brake lever, so I have a lot more leverage when applying the brake, thus making the pedal very sensitive. BUT.....when the wheel did lock up, it held straight and steady. It kinda started drift a little, but only a negligible amount that was easy to control.

Re: First pictures of new Altimax
Love the Atlimax's looks. It is a good thing to practice panic stops, and make a habit of hitting the front brake first to preload the front tire.
This way you automatically will tend to be delicate with the rear application. Most bike slides involve the rear wheel trying to pass the front.
You know, it was the one thing I'd left out of our RLAP sessions until the last one. I found out that I had a bit to learn; rear lockup is quite
easy and unwanted. In the panic situation, the reflexes wanna STOMP that back pedal; and that ain't good!
If I didn't know this at 35 years riding; I'm guessing not many in a hundred will be able to keep a line in a panic stop.

Yes....practice can't be stressed enough. That's why sports players practice 40 hours to play a 2 hour game.
I grew up on dirt bikes, odyssey's, snowmobiles, and 4 wheelers. You didn't want to hit the front brake on those machines (if they had front brakes-the odyssey's and snowmobiles didn't) because you'd end up flying over the handle bars, plus, you needed to get the back end to lock up to slide around a corner sometimes. It's taking some practice after 30 years of habit to get that mentality pounded out of me
I highly recommend the motorcycle safety course to everyone. Even experienced riders should take it periodically to re-learn some of the bad habits we develop over time. We did a lot of practicing on proper stopping and keeping it in a straight line.
Cheers.

Re: First pictures of new Altimax
I just put the same tire on my 2010 Road Star last week. Much like you I started with low tire pressure and went up. From much research on this site. I went up to 41 psi, you might try that. My bike weighs 745 lbs plus myself around 200 lbs total around 945. Total pressure will depend on total weight. Find what works for you. Enjoy!!

Re: First pictures of new Altimax
Thanks Don. I was thinking I would bump up the pressure this week and give it a try. It feels like it might be happier with a few more pounds, especially when riding two up. My V Star is about 75 pounds lighter than your Road Star, but I'm about 25 pounds heavier, so we are in the same ball park for weight, so it sounds like 41 may be a magic number.
Got quite a few miles on this tire, maybe 600 to 800, and so far I can't find a reason why I would want to switch back to a MC tire. I'm really impressed with how it handles the curves.

Re: First pictures of new Altimax
I tooled some dirt racing while I was off the road for a while, and sure enuff, had to learn to leave off that back brake until last. That's the
one thing you can't bring from dirt to street with you and live very long.
I like pressures slightly on the high side too, but usually when I talk about cornering, it involves sparks.

Ha!.....I'm not quite that aggressive yet I keep it fairly calm in the corners because my wife freaks when the boards scrape, but she did say she was a little nervous because I was cornering a lot faster since the car tire was installed. It just feels really stable in the corners and I feel more comfortable in a curve than I did with a MT.
