Motorcycle Enthusiasts Look to SimpleTire.com for Valuable "DarkSide"
Advice While Riding with the New Michelin Tire Online
Trust is growing for SimpleTire.com as the website continues to give an explanation to cyclists
everywhere that reassures riders won't end up in a ball of flames from using a car tire as the
rear tire on a motorcycle. The new Michelin tire available on the company website is perfect
for darkside travels.
(PRWEB) April 26, 2012 -- A number of motorcycle riders have found the benefits of using a car tire on the
rear of a Goldwing. The practice was referred to as "being on the Darkside" since people thought riders would
all die in a ball of flames. Well, that is just not the case. There are actually a lot of benefits of using a car tire in
the rear of a motorcycle.
Car tires have a much larger contact area so problems with the road get distributed throughout the tire. Traction
is improved, bridge grates are irrelevant, and gravel is much less of an issue.
Second, the sidewalls are able to flex more, so road issues are absorbed. About 75% of the jarring and shaking
goes away. Motorcycle passengers will love it!
Third, the same flex of the sidewall lets it spread out in corners. The harder a rider takes a corner, the more it
spreads out and puts rubber on the ground.
Fourth, the tire is much stronger - especially run-flat tires. If a rider has a sudden loss of air, the tire will
provide some time to recover. If the tire does happen to pick up a nail or other road hazard, a car tire can take a
patch much better.
Finally motorcycle riders can expect a lot more miles out of a car tire than someone could with a traditional
motorcycle tire.

Many riders opt for the 195/55R16 Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3 ZP which are new to the SimpleTire.com
website. This offers a great ride and gives the rider that zero pressure run flat that many riders are looking for.
Feel free to look up Michelin Tires and their associated specs or pricing on SimpleTire.com

Nice of 'em to say, but they still have no tires to fit the softails over here. I did see something like a 185/65/16 in the EU they make.

This is the website that was discussed, probably without being named, in the thread last month under the title "Quantifiable Evidence". The British organization Traffic Safe questioned the whole concept of going darkside after this advertisement/statement came out last year, followed up with statements from Michelin stating that using car tires is not good on motorcycles, and got them to retract their statements. Then in the thread "Quantifiable Evidence" the editor of Traffic Safe said he'd look into the issue further because we're all so passionate in our beliefs, but we've not heard anything. So, the good read apparently isn't true anymore ! LOL LOL LOL

In all reasonable sense, you'd wonder where Michelin first got the information about the advantages of the Darkside? I mean,
it's not like their R&D people are a bunch of bikers, and chances are that if they were, they might not be Darksiding. So, it
comes back to the plethora of us who are anecdotal, albeit, massive in numbers, as 'evidence'. And with only two Darkside
forums, plus a couple Winger forums and a few threads on other sites, it might almost appear that we're just a small cult
following of a few thousand.
Definitely in our favor is the sheer LACK of negative reports in a group this large, despite being mainly anecdotal. It's kind
of like the old Woodstock festival - 300,000 hippies and not one fight. Plus dedication: 99% of us will never go back. You
don't see that sort of thing when there's any problems, although we do document known issues (mostly mounting pressure)
openly and discuss them at large. There are just too many advantages here to ignore.
