Tire Reports on Austone, Excelsior, Dunlop 175/16's
Since the death of Vredestein, it would be nice to have running reports on the 3 available tires left to fit the Harleys and some others, now that a few of you are trying them out - could you report here, so we can compare?

Re: Tire Reports on Austone, Excelsior, Dunlop 175/16's
Still no reports? Well, I have some things to share, and I'm accumulating miles on an Austone.
SOME of the Austones have high speed wobble problems, lessened from what I read by pressures above 42 - mine needs FIFTY!
My top speed is about 85, where things get sloppy, but I've taken some serious sweepers at 70+ with it, and all cornering under that
is rock solid, so I'm keeping the tire. (given to me by a guy who couldn't get above 70 on his bike.
My next tire as far as the present market availability will have to be the more expensive 175R16 Dunlop, but being the very same
height as the Austone, I'll be watching to see if anyone is having wobble or other issues with them as well.
And hopefully by the time I wear out this Austone (IF IT EVER QUITS RAINING HERE!!!), there may be a more economical choice.

If a 175/80-16 will fit on your bike maybe this 185/75-16(ITEM V5006) will fit if its not to wide. Its a Comtrac so we know its well made.

No deal; the 175 Comtrac nearly hits the fender, and I'd have another if they didn't discontinue them.

Yes me to, I got one of the last 175/75-16 Comtrac tires here in the states last year. I think I have enough room for the 185 when my 175 Comtrac wears out but that will be in two or three years and we might have some new tires to choose from by then. Lets hope so anyway.

It's a great tire, but why 2 years to wear it out? I tore mine up in one! icon_tonguerrounds wrote:Yes me to, I got one of the last 175/75-16 Comtrac tires here in the states last year. I'm seeing nearly 1/2" to the belt with the 175 in there; a 185 might go if I bend the fender upper edge out a bit. Without any section widths on these,
I'd just have to guess at it. One did have specs, looking at 7.5" on a much wider rim.
