1800F pics/opinion of Toyo T1R Empty 1800F pics/opinion of Toyo T1R

As I eluded to in another thread I decided to try a CT. Toyo Proxes T1R 215/45/18 (Avon Cobra in the front)

Mount/balance: I talked to the guy that mounted/balanced it. He said it was tough to fold that tire down onto the rim by himself- not enough hands. With 2 people it would have been easy. Balanced with 3/8 oz. He said he put 42lbs air pressure in it.

Putting on bike: I left the air in it. Took off the dust ring because I could barely get the stock 180 past it. Rolled the tire in, worked the dust ring back into place. Lifted the tire into the splines, pushed/tapped the axel through. Fits great! Eyeballed the fender brace and decided to remove the tire and grind the bottom lip of the brace just in case. I left the helmet lock in place because I still use it a lot.

The ride: I went to a huge empty lot and did figure eights and circles for 15 minutes to get the feel and to scuff the tires. It feels like the bike is "floating" as it rocks back & forth. The bike is less top heavy because of liking to be upright. The stock tire must have been hard as a rock because now small bumps have disappeared and large bumps are not as bad as they used to be. I do NOT notice the crown of the road at all, not much different to me than thoughtlessly adjusting for slight crosswinds. Others have said (r 16") that the tire stays on the full width of the tread- NOT with this 18". It tilts up so that maybe a 1/4 of the tire width is on the ground. Looks freaky. I would still call a 1/4 of a CT similar to the narrow patch of a MT though.

Keeping it on? I could go either way right now. It is pretty early to tell. I do like the precise feel of the MT when weaving compared to the floating/rocking feeling of the CT. I like the softer bumps with the CT, the longer life of the CT, and the look of the CT. Sadly, if I were to get into an accident of any kind all the naysayers would blame the CT which would not be fair. No If it takes me 2 years to wear this thing out I'm sure I'll know which direction I'm going by then.

Good write up Cords..I have 2500 miles on mine and the tire just keeps getting better.
I look forward to another report in another 1000 miles or so. Try different air pressures. (5 pounds at a time ((thanks Twin))). You might be supprised how much a difference of 5 pounds makes.

What bike is this on???? Is this two up??? What are your shocks set at???

Some times the brand and size of tire you might have to grind the inner support.

My bike is the same as yours. but faster ( Very Happy ). I am running 36 psi in my toyo and I have yet to rub anything. I have over 14 thousand on my tire and it still looks good. I am a big boy and I ride two up occasionally and have not had one issue. Your choice of tires is limited with the 18 inch wheel. Good luck. I have found a few but I dont have that information with me. If my memory serves me right I posted it up for comment but have no idea how it would fit up. Again the Toyo has given me 0 issues. Sticks like glue too.
