What Rear tire?
Just purchased a 95 GW 1500SE with 32.6k miles and a rear tire that is really old. Need to replace it.
Looks like the 160/80/16 is 26.2" tall and 6.6" wide -- i see some recommending 175/60/16 CT - looks like that it is only 24.7" tall and 4.2" wide
Would a 215/60/16 Fit - looks like it is 26.2" tall and 5.1" wide ?
What are my options?
Thanks
Randy

Re: What Rear tire?
I don't think that tire will fit a 1500. The only one I've heard used on the 1500 is a 175 made by Austone. Read through the other posts below and you will probably get more info.

Re: What Rear tire?
I'm not sure even a 195 would clear the 1500. I've only heard of the 175 being used.

Re: What Rear tire?
The problem area must be with the width? Does anyone know the largest width that will fit under the 1500SE?
Found a Kumho that is only 8.1" wide and the stock tire is 6.6" wide
Will it fit?

One of these 185 tires might fit

or these 175 tires

I am Confused!
Is the TAXI tire the only tire that fits or will some other tires fit as well? I don't want the bike any higher and if it were a little lower it would be OK as well. I looked under the bike and the dunlop is really close to the frame. It measures 6.7" wide so anything that wide should fit.
Any other options available?
Does any one have a tire that works besides the taxi tire?
Thanks

Re: What Rear tire?
Doc,
Thanks for the info. -- I looked at the MFG Spec sheets and the only difference between the 175 & the 195 is the OD .5" larger on the 195/60/16
Do you guys know if anyone has tried the 195/60R/16 ??
Thanks Again!
Randy

Re: What Rear tire?
Randy,
I think it maybe a little to wide. I went with the Dunlop SP Winter Sport 175/60/16 on my Gl1500. The fit is close with this tire.

Since going to the Darkside (dbl) we have about 3k on our rear Good Year 175/60-16 with little to no wear (we're running a CSC FSIII sidecar) on our 99SE wing, and only about 1k on our front Bridgestone BT45 both feel Great! Enjoy!

I am running the same rig as you. I have a '90 GL1500SE with CSC FSIII. I was running a Federal Formoza 175/60-15 for the last few years but I found it made the rig too low for speed bumps and driveways. I was tired of bottoming out. Although I liked the tire, I changed to the Austone Taxi Tire (175/80-16) last May. Also mounted a Bridgstone Battlax rear tire on the front. Tire is working great and no more bottoming out on the sidecar subframe. It was a tight fit and I had to remove a small rubber flap and bracket from the inside of the fender. I also had to let all the air out to fit past the swing arm. Only have gone on one long trip of 2,000 miles with sidecar and tent trailer with no issues.
