ready for a change to the DARKSIDE
Hey all,
Just joined this site and have been reading the posts. Lots of great info here Thanks to all who have contributed.
I have decided to come to the Darkside. I just bought a 2003 Valkyrie Standard with 43,000 miles and wouldn't ya know that I had a valve stem issue on the front after I left the guys house in Tryon, N.C. heading to Deals gap. Well me and my wife Kathie got to ride from Tryon, N.C. to the Florida panhandle and what a ride it was. Deals gap, Cherohala Skyway, Hwy 68 south out of Tellico and down to Georgia then Alabama then Florida. After getting home I rode to work on Monday and when I started to leave I noticed that it wasn't handling to good so after closer inspection I found 3 nails in the rear tire so now I am going to figure out how to take the rear tire off the bike and mount a C/T on it myself. Nobody around here will mount a C/T on a motorcycle I even offered to sign a release of Liability form-No such luck. So I am going to try and do it myself. Any info on how to do it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED I have read about the nut cage mod (not sure about that either) but will give it a try. Also looked at tire changers and stumbled across this web site for the DIY'er No-scufftiretool.com think I am going to build me one and then I will be able to do ALL the maintenance myself. WOOOO HOOOOO!!!
Thanks in advance for your input.

I use a mom & pop tire and muffler place, they're happy for the work. $8
Any place that has a rim grip changer can do it. Good Luck.

Maybe you could tell the tire shop that it was going on a drag bike? Maybe tell them it was going on a trike? There prob wouldn't be a prob with them doing it then. Might be a little dishonest, but I try to drag mine down an open stretch as often as I can. So I wouldn't be lying entirely.

Dirt bike shops. Or buy yourself some spoons; it's easy to do.

Re: ready for a change to the DARKSIDE
Welcome, I have used everything from walmart (mounting one on a trip), to a local tire store I bought my tires at. Now I have a buddy that has a bike store and shop so I can take them in and swap them out.
Spoons are a great tool, but spoons and a sturdy rim clamp are perfect together.
There are lots of options out there.
I have heard good things about the NO-mar tool. Please let us know how you like it.
Welcome to the site.
See you out there

Welcome
Welcome to the Darkside, I have only been on the CT for about a month, but so far I am happy with it, if you go to the darkside form they give listings of places that will mount a CT. Good Luck and ride safe.

Keep checking out the independent motorcycle shops. Those who employ people who know how to read and get involved in the various motorcycle forums will have heard that car tires on the back of motorcycles are reliable and safe and will pose no problems.
I've heard of people who removed the brake rotor and claimed the wheel was from a trailer.
