Floating
I have been doing "The Vader" for about a week now and love it. I am running a Bridgestone Potenza G019 Grid 195/55R-16 on a '06 Kaw. Nomad. I have had it at 36 psi ever since I got it installed. I have notice that in a corner if the road is a little rough, I feel like I am "floating" I don't feel like I am loosing traction. Just not as solid of feel as it use to be. Sort of like my tire is slightly of the road but has great grip on the air. I don't know how else to describe it and a few glasses of wine is not helping (not driving) with the description. Is this "floating" feel normal?
Thanks

Re: Floating
Congrates on your Rotorboy!!!!
It sounds like you might be a little low on pressure at 36psi.
That is exactly the tire a lot of Goldwingers run, but I think the consensuses is to run them in the 38-40psi range.
Try playing with your pressures by raising them up 2 psi at a time and go for a good ride.
It is amazing how a couple of pounds of air pressure can change the way a tire feels.

Re: Floating
Along with the floating feel does it also feel like it "sets" as you are entering a curve? I like that set feeling. I know that the tire is there. Also know that when it "sets" I have maximum contact patch on the road.
Enjoy

Re: Floating
Or could it be that it's just so smooth you're not feeling the usual grinding of rubber?

Re: Floating
Considering that I love every other thing this tire is doing for me, and the "floating" is not a bothersome thing, I am thinking you are right in the above statement and I am going to leave the air pressure alone for now. I might try moving it up a bit after I have my wife on the back and see how it feels. On my old tire I found that mid point between best solo and best with passenger. I am sure this tire will need the same tweek as I ride about 50/50 solo/passenger.quadancer wrote:Or could it be that it's just so smooth you're not feeling the usual grinding of rubber?

Re: Floating
Some of us have found as we continued to ride the Darkside, we got used to the smoothness, and as long as there is no wallowing when 2up in a sweeper with some bumps or rises, we tended to LOWER our pressures from what we THOUGHT was our sweet spot.
The really funny thing is that most of us find that solo or 2up only requires one tire pressure. Now, I DO scrape the boards a bit easier 2up, and that COULD be the lower air pressure, but the bike feels more like it's on a MT and is definitely smoooooth!
For "performance" weekends like riding the Dragon area 2up, I'll add a few lbs. for speed.
