If you love a CT then god bless ya. I can't stand the damned thing. I tried pressures from 30 up to 44 on the Goodyear (I think it's a 205/70R16, I'd have to look) and while that certainly made a difference it just didn't make enough of a difference to make me want to keep the CT

My review: The pros just don't outweigh the cons.

Pros:
Tire life (duh). I think there's about 8k on it and other than a little rounding on the edges it looks darned near new.
Braking is a lot more effective and I could NOT get that back tire to lock up. Don't think I didn't try!
Acceleration seemed improved as well.
I was surprised at how little a CT affected meager turns
Cons:
Anything more than a meager turn requires a lot more effort than it does with an MT
The tire wants to follow the angle of the road. Here in North Georgia there is no such thing as a flat road and if it approaches flat it has a healthy crown. A 200 mile round trip was torture towards the middle.
The constant counter-steer has caused problems in my right elbow. The fact the rear sits a little lower may also be in play.
The port side wear on the front tire was MUCH more pronounced with the CT. I believe it would add the cost of an extra front tire over the life of the CT (that would require a lot more research that I'm not going to do)
Roads with 'depressions' worn in from too many trucks at stop lights play hell with a bike with a CT. There are lots of those where I live and the effect ranges from annoying to outright hazardous
Reduced fuel mileage. I seem to have the walk light come on between 135 and 155 with an MT. With the CT it almost always came on at 135 or lower. Not bad until I factored in the shorter tire throwing the actual miles off by 7%.

When people tell me they hate sushi I always ask "have you ever tried it?" If they say "no" then in my mind they aren't qualified to offer an opinion on it.

I tried a CT and hated it.

Thanks to the folks that helped me and answered questions for me. I don't reckon I'll be back to this forum much.

Only a 205, so I couldn't really say it was too wide - one of my DS buds has one on a VTX 1100 and we spark the twisties without effort. He won't part with it, nor I mine.
Wish I could have ridden yours to see what's up with that.
One good thing: if you don't like it, you say so, you go back to MT's and are true to what you percieve. I respect that.
In the back of my mind, I'd have a hundred questions about the bike, but it could also be rider sensitivity which can be a good or a bad thing, depending.
We often say 99% don't go back. That makes you a one percenter bro.
edit: I should add that I live in Georgia, use N. Ga. as my playground, and can take my hands off the bars most anywhere (going straight) without the bike turning. My front tire is evenly worn, if not a little quickly (Bridgestone Spitfire). That tells me something in the geometry of your bike isn't coexistent with the DS.

I do not like the feel of the car tire near as much as the MC, and I also don't like the effort required stay straight on a crowned road. However, even though I agree with your assesment of the ride, I still prefer a car tire because of the good parts. I like the low cost, the looks it gets, and the reduced maintenance. I guess for me it's just worth the bad parts. I won't go back to a MC, I just don't pretend that I like every single thing about car tires on bikes

Happy Riding all.

Whilst I have no feeling of crown in a road at all, my friend Jeff's 205 doesn't either - but - it may be because it's a
Dunlop Signature and those have a rounded edge at the tread. Not sure if that makes a diff or not, since we flex the
tires anyway.
I've wondered if an actual square edge woulnd't put MORE tread on the deck in a corner.

Good write-up on many of the issues concerning car tires on bikes. I've felt all the same things you pointed out, but felt they were minor. Also, after a thousand miles, these issues never cross my mind anymore, and I had to think about it when you posted.

Car tires, just like a particular brand of bike tires, brand of oil, dyna-beads vs balancing a tire, isn't for everyone. The 100% canyon carver is going to use the stickiest bike tires available and will not go darkside. Thanks for bringing this up, it's always good to think about decisions we've made and allow us to either reaffirm our decisions or reconsider them.
