Pressure build up

Post  coldweatherfreak on Tue Nov 29, 2011 12:20 pm

wondering what others are seeing for cold vs hot pressures

somone asked me a few days ago if it was about 10% like a bike tire at the proper pressure and I wasn't sure so I checked mine after an 85 mile ride

cold 31.8 hot 35 about as close to 10% as you can get

Oddly enuff, I don't get that much variance with the Vredestein, or at least every time I've checked it, it was within a couple lbs. of my setting.

This heat buildup depends on total weight, speed, type of road surface and other items. Everyone's will be different.

weight & speed will affect the rate the tire comes up to temperature, carcass flex causes the tire to heat, not surface friction (the tire surface will disapate heat the carcass flex creates ) once its warm, then comparable tires and pressure settings will yield similar results

if your not finding comparable results, then your tires are not completely warmed

Occurs to me that with more pressure, the sidewall flex is less and therefore less heat, and less of a difference in cold/hot pressures. I've run 36.
Any anecdote without the pressures ran mentioned doesn't tell us anything, right?

obviously, that's how you regulate the tire temperature, with air pressure
