I'm trying to help out a friend of mine on the correct size for a 2008 Road King. Any suggestions?

That is like a 140/90/16 size. It is going to be difficult to find a car tire that narrow for a 16" wheel.
How much clearance do you have between the tire and drive belt? hmmm

Unless you can fit a 175 in there between the belt and the left side fender, you're pretty much scroodid. No
