General Altimam HP

Will be new to the Darkside this weekend. Found your Darkside site a week ago. Have been digesting everyones thoughts. Went to most of the big bike dealers I usually deal with today. Most of them know me from 15 years with Cycle trader and Walnecks.When I announced that I wanted them to service my bike and throw a car tire on the rear,all hell broke loose.The parts guy started hollering and was really upset. Said I would be endangering the other riders around me.Even said I was a fool. I showed him the 3 -$100.00 bills I had and said to take a good look. Then I informed him that they were all fired from my business.I found 2 small independant shops that said they would install the CT's


for me. I would never have guessed that people who enjoy the same recreation are so emotional over CT vrs MT. But, from a dealers standpoint, the profit margin is strong on tire sales/installation. They were trying to sell me a $300.00 rear tire/installation package at the dealership. Can't wait to show them my VTX's new BIG Darkside Booty. CT and installation will be aroung $130.00. That just means " MORE KROME."

Has anyone had any experience with the General Altimax HP 205/60x16R in V or H rating? I'm able to get a decent deal and installed locally. I'll be putting this on a 06 1800C-3. The rear dunlop is shot at 13300. Already replaced the front dunlop at 9500 miles with an elite 3.

That make of tire sounds familiar, if it's the one I think, lots of folks are runnin it.

You will love the ride, play with the air pressure to find your sweet spot... then enjoy!

Ran an Altimax HP V rated for little over 20k. In a word, bouncy... its a grand touring tire designed to give more sidewall flex for a more cushy ride. I ran the pressure up to 40 on mine trying to get the bounce down and couldn't get rid of it all. I don't recommend the Altimax HP....

I'm personally running a Yoko ENVigor and love it - no more bounce. The Mich HE, GYTT are very popular choices.

+1 on what Pointman said. If you ride two up then it might work for you (the ol lady loves the ride on the Altamax). I've run my psi up to 50 (max psi for the tire) and still bouncy and the rear end wiggles if you hit a bump while in a turn. I can live with the bounce, but that wiggle...

I have the Altimax on mine. +1 to bounciness. I run mine at 44psi to get it where I want to feel. I'd buy the tire again, but I've never tried anything else so I might go with the TT or HE this time around...

Hey there. I've got a thought on this post. The bounce and wiggle that you fellows are describing sounds a lot like the problems I've been fighting for 2 years on my 02 1800c. First thing I tried was a new set of shock bushings, didn't work. Then I checked all my bearings out to find that they are all good. After all that I figured it was the cheap tire I put on so I was gonna live with it. A couple weeks ago it got worse, so I broke down and ordered plastic shock bushings from mcmaster-carr. That fixed my problems. I still can't believe that the stock bushings affected the ride like that, even when they were new. I am leaning towards the fact that the ct gives you so much more input of what the road is like. Some quality bushings my fix your problems.

Thanks for the follow up. I my case I actually went through all that before deciding it was the tire. Oh and another contributor to rear end wiggle is worn rear wheel damper blocks...
