Another newb. Where's the cookies???? Update
Going darkside as soon as my GYTT 205/60/16 gets here. Don't foresee any problems as I've been lurking around a while reading up before actually joining. I do a lot of travelling - mostly interstate - and I'm tired of buying a new rear tire every spring. I get decent mileage out of my Dunlop E3's (around 15,000-16,000) but want MORE. I also have a Doc's trailer hitch with longer fender bolts so I'm sure some grinding will be in order. Will update once it's installed and I've put a few miles on it.

Be sure to read some newb posts and the answers posted about break-in, countersteering and so forth. After a week, you'll be hooked and wonder why they put MT's on the back.

UPDATE
05/13/11 Spent the day (and into the night) at Bareass' house. Got over there around 1000 am. Brought new tires - the GYTT 205/60/16 for the rear and a stock size Dunlop E3 for the front. Besides the tires, Bare was also going to install an HID headlight for me. Started with the rear tire - removed wheel from bike and the problems started. I've been running the stock replacement E3 on the back for 71,000 miles ever since the OEM Dunlops wore out. When we looked at this E3, we found that I had some frayed wires under the fender (I have trailer wiring and a another switched power wire for some blinking "hazard" LEDs on my license frame) that this rear tire had managed to rub. Following Bare's adage of "if you gonna fix something, fix it the right way", we ended up replacing frayed wires and re-routing all the wires (including factory). This required removing inner fender bracket, and while we had that off the bike, it seemed like a good time to cut/grind off that helmet lock and the lowermost edge of the bracket that "might" rub on the new CT. Not hard but time intensive work. For instance, as we re-installed the trailer hitch, sissy bar/luggage rack, and saddlebag supports, we had to tighten all 6 bolts, then mark each bolt, and remove one at a time for cutting off excess. Also checked out bigbad's non-OEM flange bearing assembly that we had installed last year around the 54,000 odometer mark - still looked good as new. With all the "tweaking" (and a break for lunch), we ended up taking until 1700 (5 pm) before we had the new rear CT mounted back on the bike. Then the front tire - went much easier - but then it was time to find some dinner. The installation of the HID headlight (the way I wanted it done) was another time intensive project and it was midnight when I left Bare's house in Slidell and hit the interstate westbound for Baton Rouge. I can't praise the HID headlight enough - really lights up the road with low beam. High beam - wow - can't overdrive that lighting without leaving the pavement. Don't know the specifics of the light - contact Mike at www.bareasschoppers.com for origin, cost, etc.

Re: Another newb. Where's the cookies???? Update
The ride home was about 70 miles - all interstate so I didn't get to really test the tire. The bike handled fine and I noticed that I only felt bumps on the front tire - the rear had more "give" to it (more flexible sidewalls I guess) and didn't transmit the bumps up to my seat. I was pulling my trailer (how I got the new tires over there and bringing the old tires back to the house for emergency spares) so there was some wiggle occassionally when passing larger vehicles but it felt pretty solid. Rode a little today running errands and so far I like it. It does tend to want to follow the lean of the roadway however and you do have to get up on the edge sometimes when riding on sloped roadway - like the left lane on Airline southbound from Baton Rouge to Prairieville and Gonzales. The road is basically straight but the left lane slopes noticably to the left for rain runoff. I have it at 34 psi right now and it feels OK. I'll be going up to the Dragon for the Memorial Day weekend and I'll be able to really test it. [img][/img]

Re: Another newb. Where's the cookies???? Update
Just returned from a week in the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina. Ran the Dragon four or five times. Initially was a little conservative but by the last day, ran the Dragon faster and tighter than I ever have before - scraped floorboards on almost every corner. The CT feels better in the curves than the Dunlop E3 that I used to run. Only thing I noticed, and commented to my friends, was a little "hinging" when I'd upshift coming out of the curves - getting on it hard and speed shifting from 2nd to 3rd. Even with that little twist to the rear end, I never felt that the tire was going to break loose. It was more like the tire was glued to the ground and the torque of the 1800 in the power band, combined with the lean angle, was just twisting the rear end of the bike with the torque. As for the non-Dragon riding, had no problems whatsoever. Just wish I could have found some rain to ride in so I could really test the tire.

Because of the extra grip Colter....adjust your shocks and or your air pressue in the tire will make a big difference. Sometimes just 4 psi will make all the difference in the world. Thanks for the write up!

Can someone tell me what "hinging" means, specially in this context ? Thx.

I think he is talking about driveshaft "wiggle".

Re: Another newb. Where's the cookies???? Update
Thanks - I do have the shocks at the highest/softest setting for comfort. Hinging (I was told by a couple of long-time riders) is the "wiggle" when you get on the power in a curve. The sidewalls of CTs are much softer than the sidewalls of MTs and you can get the rear end to "twist" or "hinge" a little bit when you dump the clutch.
