which one? Empty which one?

Post  hdofdc Mon Sep 13, 2010 1:30 pm

I have narrowed my choice down to the GYTT 205.60x16 or the Hydro 195x65x16. My local bike dealer has a new service manager that has some experience with CT on motorcycles. He will mount it for me as long as the tire "fits". Would I be better off with the 195x65x16 since it is closer to the original size? I am more worried about clearance than anything else. I have a 2007 1800 C. I keep the stock shocks all the way up to the highest setting already. Would the 206x60x16 be better for fender clearance? The dealer will mount it but would want no part of grinding fender ears. Anyone running the 195 on a C now?
Thanks!

That's the one I am leaning towards now. I see so many pics of 205 and 215's I would like to hear from someone who runs a 195x65x16 to see how it compares. I like the GYTT tread pattern better but they don't have that size here.
Thanks!

Most of them are running the 205/60 or 65/series I think for the 1800! You get more choices this way in brands! Let us know what you do???

I have heard of a couple people who were planning to use a 195, and I'm pretty sure at least 1 if not 2 did... but I can't recall who or when... theory has it, it would handle better then the 205, but the 205 is popular because there are more options and well, it's a wider tire. That's what most folks want is a wider tire. Ever seen a thread any where titled "how narrow can I go?"? Laughing Laughing

But I'll bet a paycheck the better handling goes to the narrow CT's. Cool has a cost.

Looks like I won't get the chance to find out. Only thing I can find is a GYTT 205x60x16. Guess I will find out firsthand what the clearance issues are. Crying or Very sad I mistook the michelin 195 for a 16 inch rim and it only comes in 15 inch. Sure had the tire salesman scratching his head! When he could not find it in his computer he called Michelin to see what the part number was. THEN he asked me what car it fit!! Short phone call after that....
I may see if I can borrow a bike jack and just do it myself. At least then I could grind the fender away if it hit. Or the saddlebag support bolts. Or the trunk support bolts. Rolling Eyes

which one? Empty Short conversations?

Post  czech Mon Apr 18, 2011 11:01 pm

It's amazing how the conversations change, after you answer their silly little question , " What type of a car is this for?" I now have started to enjoy the facial expressions I see when the conversation takes this dastardly turn.

It's true when you search for a tire under the size 205/60/16 you have more choices, for all the searching I did the 1st time I went Dark, and from this time with the N. When I had my 1800C I had rubbing issues when riding 2up, shocks on highest settings, running a GYTT 205/60/16. So, when I was looking for a tire for my N, I finally decided to go with a 195. When you start searching for a 195/60/16 on Tirerack.com or start searching local tire shops, you will only find about 4 choices, and after reading reviews, decided none of those were it. But, if you search 195/55/16, the door opens a little wider, went from 4 choices to 4 pages of choices. I didn't want to do any grinding to my inner fender so went with the 195 and it fits great, could care less if the 205 is a little wider. No rubbings issues when riding 2up, and shocks are not at highest setting, rides great. Good luck. cheers

And yes, some tire dealers can get a bit touchy when they ask what model car the tire is going on and you tell them it's going on a bike... 2 of them got very short with me and tried the all the lines of why I shouldn't do it, needless to say I didn't get the tire from either one...
