Mounting the Care Tire

Post  tnreloader on Wed Oct 27, 2010 6:08 pm

Been a member of vtxoa since 2005 and have always been wanting to try the car tire on my vtx. I have taken the first step to the darkside and bought a car tire. Could anyone give me advice on where around memphis would be willing to mount it for me? Called a few places and taken it to one shop and only found rejection. Any advice would be appreciated. thanks

Have you considered doing the job yourself? If you have an air compressor, the costs of tools to do the job will be far less than paying to have it done. It's a dirty job, and the first time or two can be frustrating and time consuming. However, it takes me less than 2 hours from jacking up the bike to jacking it back down, and this includes balancing the tire on the axle.

You can look for a one man repair shop. You can try car places that mount to mag rims. Got mine done at a discount tire place. Just make sure they clean the rim before putting on the new tire, and use a lot of whatever the use to make the tire slick. For balancing beads work best. I use dyna beads. Others will chime in soon.
What tire did you go with?

Thanks for the advice.
I went with a Falken 205- 60- 16. If I have a good experience I will choose the hydroedge for the next tire.

Those of us with 15" rims shy away from the Falken's. They are the only tire that gives us trouble consistently. Only a couple have been mounted. Hope the 16" works better.

On 57 exit 12 east side of the interstate a mile north is a place I believe called pride or american pride something like that, they will do it, nice folks too, they have become a stopping point for me,

See you out there

Mom&Pop dirtbike shops will be willing for the business and may have the rim grabber type changer so your chrome or polish doesn't get scratched.
