I have been a 'double dark" for several years now....currently using a 195/55/16 goodyear ultra eagle (24.4" high)on the rear of my 1800....I would like to use a taller tire to correct speedo, drop rpms , give more cornering clearance & lean the bike more when on this too long side stand.....what is the tallest CAR TIRE i can use...narrower tire is fine if taller.....what about that 175r/16 taxi tire posted earlier?.....if it is 26.9 inches tall it would be perfect but will it clear swing arm?

Check out the Goodyear Triple Tread in 205/60R16, it is 25.7 inches tall and about the tallest tire you will find that will fit your wing. If you can find a 195/65R16 Continental Vanco they are 26 inches tall but have not been sold in the US for about a year.

I bought a Vanco 195/65-16 for my Nomad this summer. Then I sold the Nomad so I put it on my 1800. I think it's too tall. It rubbed on the inner fender so I removed some of the fender. It rubbed on the swing arm so I ground some of the swing arm and it still rubs riding two up when going over bumps. Suspension set quite high and our combined weight is about 370 pounds. I will use a shorter tire next time. BTW, the speedometer is 100% accurate (by GPSr) with the Vanco.
I just ordered a Speedohealer for my ST-1300 to correct the terrible speedometer error.

When I put the Vanco on my bike it rubbed for a while but eventually it stopped. As far as I could tell there was only a very, very small amount of rubber worn from the right corner of the tire where it was making light contact with the swing arm. It wasn't enough to make any difference at all. I now have around 20,000 miles on it and it probably has another 8 or 10 thousand miles left in it. It is easily the longest wearing tire ever put on a Gold Wing.

I also have the Vanco 195/65/16 omn my 1800, and love it. got out the grinder on the swingarm, took just a little off, and fixed the rubbing. Have 11K miles on it and the tire still looks new. I think the next best size would be the 195/60/16, just a little bit shorter. Wallacem in Ga
