Well I was wrong on the year, he has an 07 UC which has a more narrow rim than the 09. Any tires that you know of for that set-up? No 07's on that link you posted BTW.

DRAGON IS DEFEATED!!!

Post  quadancer on Mon Oct 04, 2010 9:09 am

Sorry I missed your post dawg; I'm clueless for the UC's beyond the charts. He'll have to work it out himself.

Also, as I said, I'm using a BACK tire on the front (Double Darkside S-11) so have some more meat up there (not much; I expected a bit more). If it was going to have problems, I'd think it would have on the DragonTail this weekend. I wore slap through the fire hose crashbar protectors I'd put on in our 600 mile trip. Wear rubs went within 1/4" of the very edge of the tread; which is my max lean angle.
Some of the crotch rockets were looking back at us wondering how Harleys were keeping up. I didn't see any Fatboys, Heritages, or anything on MT's keeping up with our CT's and I can't believe how glued to the road it was. :pirat: I slipped ONE time with the tire at full lean on the yellow line when I downshifted and nailed it, but it grabbed pavement as soon as it came off the paint. My Night Dragon probably would have kept spinning.

Our next mission will be camping on the Devil's Triangle, where the pavement isn't so smooth as the Dragon's. I'll be on the dragon a lot in the future; it's like the best/biggest playground EVER...but the LeafGawkers are coming out now and will ruin it for riding. I like when my mojo gets hot and I'm in tune with the bike; I don't want to have to keep pulling off because of slugs hogging the road.

I might buy this one from Killboy - but they MISSED the sparks on EVERY shot! I TOTALLY was scraping thru there each time!
Tire is at 36 lbs. and half the tread on the deck.

Could not shake my buddy Ron with the Harley; just won't lean enuff.

We often got stuck behind slow bikes, so here I'm just coolin' it.

Looking for Road King Tire

Post  Ironman on Wed Oct 06, 2010 1:10 pm

Trying to figure out what tire I could run on my 05 Road King.
Book calls for a MU90-B-16, but I currently have a MU85-B-16 .
Would like to go to the Run-FLat Car tire...
Any suggestions on sizeing a tire for this ??

I doubt you'll get a 175 in there (smallest available) but the trick was to make a clay turd (four little buckets at dollar store) and wrap it over the rim and tire, roll it through and measure the depth of the contact points. Or just get fancy laying on your back with a hand rule - I think your belt will be your problem spot, mine is the fender.

Found out tonight that the original tread depth was 10mm. So...I've used 2.5mm of rubber in 7k with about 5.5 to go, or 15,400 to go for a total of over 22k.

The Heritage is not a great cornering bike, it drags everything, sits to low.
I have a friend that has one and she drags thru everything.

I read thru the post and may have missed it, but what year is the Heritage?
I know the newer ones have a wider rear tire.

Mine is an '05 - narrow 150 mm tire. Yeah, it drags a lot, but the Comtrac lifts the back about 1/2" and that helps.
The club calls me "Sparky". If you have her lean inside the turns, she can hit them a lot faster, crotchrocket style.

1st Heritage gone darkside

Post  HDrider55 on Thu Feb 17, 2011 9:58 pm

Quadancer,
I have an early year 1991 Heritage Softail Custom(FLSTC) with the laced rear wheel 16" by 3.5". I seen where you put the car tire on that laced wheel on your Heritage. What was the tire you used? Did you use an inner tube and if so what tube did you use? What was the procedure you used to make it all come together? The Heritage that you have what year is it and does it have the 16" by 3.5" rear wheel? Any and all info would be extremely appreciated to get this worked out. cheers
Thanks sunny

Yeah, it's an '05 with the same wheel I think. I used the ONLY tire that will fit - Vredestein 175/75/16. Seats at 70 lbs. Almost 9k and still looking great.
I thought we moved this thread to the Harley forum where it was all chronicled.
edit: oh, and the stock tube, but it blew from a spoke nipple cut (was right next to nipple, anyway) and we put a new 16 in; no problems.
