About going DS on the front... hmmm

I hear so many thoughts on running the tire in the opposite direction, from the rotaition arrow... Suspect

I went to a tire class once and they said NEVER run a tire backwards Shrug
Has to do with the way they are made...

Yes I will be putting it on a trike...

This tire
Bridgestone Trail Wing 150/70/17 VR

or this one.

Metzeler Tourance Rear

Or maybe this

Michelin Anakee 2

So lets hear what ya think ...

My personal opinion is to go with the rotation arrow for water channeling.
I think the way tires are built these days, the braking and accelerating forces are a moot argument. hmmm

Run it directional, do not run it backwards.

You guys run car tires on motorcycles right,

even though the manufacturers say no, the beads aren't the same, yet you still run car tires on motorcycle wheels

but ya won't run a tire in the opposite direction of its directional arrow

get over it, I do it all the time to extent the life of knobby tires when I get saw blade wear pattern (caused by too much pavement)

its like going darkside, thers nothin that's gonna make you crash n burn

Don't know about your knobby tires, never had or road a scooter that had them , all I know is if you put a tire on and run it in the opposite direction when they are made directional, they don't channel water out of the way. As for a C/T on a motorcycle ? and what manufactures say, well guys have been doing that for years, nothing new at all, probably been doing this sense back in the 50s, 60s.

CT's when rotated aren't supposed to turn around either, but I have seen them run backwards on cars by necessity.
If a tire cups on me, I'm gonna flip it. Otherwise, I'm using the arrows.

Not all car tires are directional. If your tires "cup" you have another problem.

if you are running good tread on your tire its gonna channel water somewhere but if your one of those that run them bald until you can see air well you got problems. i have seen way to many bald tires on bikes and that aint smart No

I put a Michelin Road Pilot 3, rear tire on the front of my X, and reversed the rotation.
I got about 2k on it so far with no issues.
Been caught in the rain and rode on wet roads and didn't feel any difference .

who sez, the same manufacturer that tells you not to put a car tire on a bike

I have been thinking long and hard ... Mt60r

motorcycle rain tires, front tires has tread in opposite direction from rear, they they both pump water out

hows that work if they don't channel water when reversed

I always change out a tire when I hit a wear bar...
I never run a bald tire..

WOW .. Thanks for all the replies...
..

Now with a rear motorcycle tire on the front and on a trike..
I already fight a centrifugal force..
So I would think . hmmm running off the arrow would give me even more of fight
running hard in the twisties..
ANd Smokin'Joe knows how I ride.....I might want to stay with the rotation arrows..

Not entirely. I had a Bridgestone Spitfire running backwards up front that started cupping; I turned it forward and the cupping stopped and the tire lived on.
For a little while. After I get a new set on, I'd like to run into ol' Smokin' Joe and do some curves. That would be a hoot.

Treads are made to channel water outwards, reversing the direction, channels the water toward the center of your tire, leaving at times more of a chance to hydroplaning. My .02 only, everyone does what they want anyway.

Lady D, for what it's worth, I don't think my bike turns any harder with this tire on "backwards".
We got caught in a really bad t-storm today in NY. Wicked rain, hail, thunder, trees down, the works. We kept going to try to get to the other side of it quicker. I kept a steady 40-45 mph thru it all. At one point the water was deep enough to lift my floorboards up. Bike never slipped, no hydroplaning that I felt either.
And to all that think "backwards" is wrong. Park a DD bike next to a "stock" front tire bike. The tread looks the same. Pattern goes the same way.
Ride Safe all,

Been riding 50 years, like I said, some people are going to do what they want no matter, I don't care what you ride, how you turn it, what your air pressure is or what tire you use. Don't ride faster than your "Guardian Angel" can ride. Have fun.

Hi Lady D,
trike tires is like sidecar rig tires. All that matters is that they stay pumped up and still show a legal amount of tread.
Fit what you fancy, they'll be fine.
