Car tire types

Post  Debenn on Fri Jul 02, 2010 10:21 am

HI. just getting ready for my first ct on a 2006 vulcan classic 1500 fi
any suggestions on what kind of tire i should be looking at.
I think that a 195 60 16 is the size, but should it be
radial
bias
rain tire
all season
manufacturer
directional

I have a bias spoke on the front

if radial on rear, do i need to change the front as well

any info would be helpfull

I am not an expert by far in this field, but I would look for a semi performance tire in the size you want with at least a symmetrical tread and a directional wouldn't hurt (wouldn't help necessarily either, but looks cooler!)

other than that, if you havent already, look into whether you are going to seal your spoked rims or run a tube... that could make a difference in the type of tire you are looking for? I'm barely knowledgeable in the spoke rim arena...

I would stick with a radial on the rear...that's just me. No reason, but most everyone hear runs radials and you can mix radials and bias up front with NO issues.

As far as tread patterns. It doesn't matter other than looks. I have been on a non-directional rain and snow tire for over 2 years now and it handles just as good as any I have ridden with. Ask Smokey or Horse. It's a Douglas from Wally world, $54 with tax.....hehe

Do all your homework and PM individuals and collect all the data so you can to make the best decision. Thanks for asking.
