Got the Toyo today...

Post  XtremeRoadRipper on Thu Jun 03, 2010 9:00 pm

Finally after 2 weeks and 3 emails and 3 phone calls finally got my Proxes T1R. Only took 2 weeks to get here from CA. It looks BIG, preliminary eyeball on the left side looks like I'll need maybe 3/8 in. maybe a little more... affraid Sure hope the driveshaft tube will work denting it that much. Setting it next to the 200 Michelin on there now it looks the same height wise, but definately wider. Got plenty of room on the right side, and it really looks like I won't have to grind away at the front of the swingarm flange. Gringing the fender bracket just to be safe, that'll be easy. Looks like I might need to stretch the fender a bit. Sure looks like it's gonna fill that fender nice... cheers So Saturday it's off to get it mounted somewhere and fit her in... sunny Hope to post pics Sat or Sun. What a Face

Update#1

Post  XtremeRoadRipper on Sat Jun 05, 2010 3:53 pm

Got the Toyo T1R 215/55/16 mounted this morning at a private shop. The owner wasn't shocked, but, didn't have anything good to say about the CT concept. He said he's tried one on his Harley and didn't like it, so go figure, I wasn't going to make a big deal out of it at long as he mounted it that's fine for me. He did mention something about running a rear MT on the front, that the thread carcas was woven in a different pattern than a front tire, and it might not be good to put a rear tire on the front. Just relaying that for whatever it's worth. He was a real nice guy and owns the cycle shop so I just listened politely and said thanks.
Got it home, and was figuring on wrestling and grinding to get it on, and holy poop Batman, it slid right in, was easier to get it in than it was to get the old 200 Metzler off! Checked clearance and it's about 3/8 in gap on the right side and about 1/8 in gap on the left by the shaft tube. Up front by the swingarm flange is about at least 3/8 to 1/2 in gap. Fender braces I can stick my fingers inbetween the fender bracket and the sidewall. It really doesn't look like I have to do anything except clean and lube the spline and put the ring back on and bolt her down. Incredible. I'm thinking that I could get a 225/65 under there, with the mods of course. But heck, last night when it wasn't mounted on the wheel it didn't look like it would ever fit under the fender, and mounted it's a completely different size!
So I'm finishing up a coffee break, and going out to finish the wiring on my new Baron's Drag bars, mount new driving lights and led turn signals all around, then finish cleaning and mounting the rear wheel, in hopes of taking the big test ride tomorrow morning. I'll take some pics tomorrow and try and get them posted.

Update#2

Post  XtremeRoadRipper on Sun Jun 06, 2010 9:14 pm

Did some grinding on the fender brackets and swingarm flange, it didn't need it but like others here, did it anyway. Got it up and in without a hitch. sunny Plenty of clearance all around. cheers That's the good news. Still working on the wiring for the lights and turn signals, so, I guess I'm quasi-Darkside, until I get her started and do my official test run. Crying or Very sad I'm glad I took the time to read all the posts others have made on their installations, and am thankful for all the information they all provided, a hearty thank you to you all. Installing the CT as it turns out was a lot easier than the other stuff I'm finishing up. I'll post some pics during the week of the tire.
