I have not sealed my spokes yet although that will be my next project. I have a tube of 3M Marine adhesive in my toolbox just waiting for me. I just put my new tire on ( General Grabber 205/70/15 ) so I guess it will be awhile before I get to it.
That write up does look like a good idea and will probably work just as well.

I'm waiting for my tire now as well. How many pounds to pop that grabber on the rim? I got a mag rim off ebay for the tire.

They blew it up to 100 psi then let it sit in the sun for 2 hrs. POP Well worth it.
