1800 C Rub

Hello all. Rather than endure the flaming that seems to go on in vtxoa I thought I would ask people that are actually open minded about this. I have a 03 1800 c model and I am running a hydro edge 205 and it shows rub on both sides. I have done some trimming on my fender rails but dont know what exactly to trim and how much. Also after about a years worth of riding I am also rubbing on the swingarm. I took a socket and created a small "dent" where the tire was rubbing the swing arm. I checked my bearings and they seem fine. Am I missing something or should I go down to a 195? If I do go down to a 195 what is a good tire to run? I love the way the hydro looks and rides so I want something similar. I should add that I have a external hitch (not under fender) and do put a fair amount of tongue weight on.

Sorry you have had issues. What tire did you buy specifically? What air pressure are you running???

Did you go with the Hydro Edge in the 205/65/16 proper fit or the 205/70/16 a taller tire.

also did you trim your fender bolts after you did the trim of the inner rails many people forget to trim them to length a thread or two through is going to be the best holding any more is just over kill.

I little more info please! That's odd, I have not heard of there being that much problem.... what length are your shocks, 1 or 2 mostly? in addition to the questions already asked...

Running the Hydro edge 205 65 and usually running at 42 PSI. I have trimmed the lower rail and ground the bolts to flush. Does anyone have a pic of the proper grinding of the c model brackets?

OK I did not grind that much off that far back. I will mod in a couple of weeks and report back. The rub is on both sides and I have had the bike since new so I no damage that I know of.

turn your shocks up to four or even five with 2-up , that might help until you can get them ground down flat.

I run the GYTT 205-60-16 and all I had to do was cut the inner fender brace also running 11 ann half inch shocks.. no problemo

if you've had rubbing on both sides, can you look up in there and tell where it's rubbing? That ought to give you some indication of where to start, as for the shaft, that's unusual but has been reported once or twice that I recall.... the sock setting wouldn't or shouldn't affect that but I am curious what type of shocks you have and the setting they are on.... I'm assuming you could see where the tire was rubbing on the shaft housing, or was that speculation based on the wear marks on the tire?
