Toyo Proxes R1R 205-55-16 MOUNTED - Never going back!!

Post  lownotesb on Sun Sep 06, 2009 1:10 pm

All I can say is this tire is a huge improvement over the Metzler 880 that was on before which was huge improvement over stock.

You can't buy this Toyo in any regular stores. I got it here. www.TD4L.com about $150 shipped.

This tire works unreal. I can't detect any negatives nor any major differences in handling. Actually was driving about 2-3 miles on dirt cobble and it was basically what you would expect for a 600lb bike on gravel. A handful, but I couldn't say there was any neg related to the tire.

Highly recommended.

Now, what's the biggest replacement I can do for the front?

Welcome Aboard Exclamation Nice Tire. With C front fender I run a Dunlop D206 130/80R18, it's O.D. is 1.5" more than stock. 140/70-18 will fit, Metz and Pirelli have them in bias, slightly wider and not quite as tall as D206, which just makes it.

Re: Toyo Proxes R1R 205-55-16 MOUNTED - Never going back!!

Post  Flintknapper on Tue Sep 15, 2009 12:29 pm

Iíve been waiting on my MT to go belly up, and itís about there now. I have a 2002 VTX1800 C I want to mount a CT. I read this string yesterday about the Toyo Proxes R1R 205-55-16, and I ready like the way it looks. I have a couple of question:

Is there any mod I need to do to the 1800C to mount this tire?

How long did it take to get the tire delivered?

With this size tire (55 vs 60), does the speedo read correctly? I read others ,and most are saying 60 or 65 corrects the speedo.

I don't now anything about this, that's way I'm asking.

Thanks,

db

First off , Welcome to the Darkside board cheers it is a great place to get info.
The tire should fit just fine to your 1800C and it would be better for your speedometer with a 60 or even a 65.
With the 70 might need the fender frame horns ground a bit. ( see horseman swingarm mod).
As far as ,(How long did it take to get the tire delivered?) you have to as the people that you order your tire from.
good luck,
Horse

Thanks for the reply!
What would I get (as far as the speedo) with 55?
Will the speedo read slower or faster?

Toyo Proxes R1R's

Post  Flintknapper on Sat Oct 03, 2009 1:48 pm

These questions are for "lownotesb", or anyone who's running the Toyo Proxes R1R.

Do you still like the Toyo Proxes R1R you got?

How is it working out?

Did you have any break in period that I've heard others talk about?

What tire pressure are you running?

I ordered one yesterday, and should be here next week.

toyo r1r update

Post  lownotesb on Sun Oct 04, 2009 12:18 pm

I'm still lovin it.

Break in, not really. It just worked fine for me right off the bat. I think the big difference is how soft this tire is. Much softer than a street car tire so I think that's why it was just buttery right off the bat.

I know you're gonna laugh but I haven't even check the pressure since the dudes mounted it for me. I took it to a quad shop (off the bike) and told them I was building up a drag bike. The mounted and balanced it for about $50. They said it went on easy. After I did some moderate testing it felt just fine the way it was. Don't know the pressure because I can't find my stick pressure gauge because my freeking garage is such a mess.

Delivery was less than a week.

I really don't have anything to complain about. It works great for my tastes.

Don't know much about the speedo, I barely ever look at it.

Now I'm trying to figure out what the best and fattest tire is I can put on the front.

Any recommendations???

I happy to hear you still love it. I order mine last Firday, and sould be in mid week.

I have a friend (at work) who has a tire changer, and does all his own tires. So, I'll take it to him and he'll bring it to me the next day.

Did you put the wheel back on your bike? If so, did you have any problems? I've read (on this site) of guys, that have to let the air out of the CT tire just to get it back on the bike, so how hard was it for you? How much does the tire clear the swingarm on each side? I have a 2002 1800 C.

I'm don't know anything about the front tire sizes, but I'm sure someone will know on this site. Great bunch of guys!
Thanks for the infomation, and from the way it sounds, I'll love this tire to. If it rides as good as it looks, that will be great.

just push!!

Post  lownotesb on Mon Oct 05, 2009 2:06 pm

the tightest part, if I remember, was just getting the rubber past the drive.

I started it in at an angle and just shimmied it on in.

I also changed all my bearings back there too. Getting them out was a chore according to the guys who did the work for me.

Snowing here now!! Proly going to cancel my insurance next month until april/may.

going to work on pipes, clutch, horn, tank, valves and lights over the winter.

Hi,
I'm getting the tire put on the wheel today. After removing the wheel last night I see what you were talking about, getting it pas the drive will be the hardest part.

Once I get to past the drive and located correctly on the drive, how much room is there between the tire (rubber) and the swing arm on each side.

Does the tire rub anywhere on the swing arm?

It doesn't look like there's much room to play with.

I'm just a little worried about it!

Thanks

Post  lownotesb on Thu Oct 08, 2009 11:12 am

if it rubbed I would have said it rubbed!!

I have no clearance issues.

good luck.

I also don't have a stock rear fender so your situation will be different.
