GYTT, Shock preload Empty GYTT, Shock preload

I've got about 1,100 miles on my tire. The only thing I find that I don't like is the handling in bumpy curves. Bike seems to hop a little bit over the bumps. bounce Preload has always been a mystery to me, not sure which way to move. Shocks are stock, set on 3 now. Ride 2up all the time with our combined weight about 400#. I've found that 40psi on the tire feels best to me. What would you guys do first to try to eliminate the bounce? I ride an 05 1800N3.

Thanks

set your shocks to 4 or even 5 and go out again and see if that helps.

If changing preload doesn't help, I would try less tire pressure, mine is much better on corner bumps at 30 psi than 40, try 35 and see how it is. The CT is designed to carry more than twice the weight you're putting on it, at less than 40 psi.
A pair of Progressive 440 shocks would work wonders.

I hesitate to run less air because when I first installed it I put 34# in and it was so squirrely that I could barely herd it down the road. At 40# it feels great everywhere except bumpy curves. I'll try setting the shocks on 4 and see how that does. If that doesn't work then I'll try a little less air.

Thanks

Oh, and yes Progressive 440's would be great. As soon as I have $400.00+ lying around, I'll get a set Laughing

If you experience squirrely ride at 34 I think you need to check everything including tire I have never had that experience at any pressure with my gytt .RIDE SAFE Larry S.

Check your shock bushings too. They will cause that squirrly feeling too.
I run 34 psi in mine and shocks on 3 for 1up and on 5 for 2 up.

Good luck

I had the same issue. I am close to 300 lbs. I am running mine at 4 now. Had the same issue with a wobble with the MT and adjusted it up back then. Just been playin with the air pressure after that. Mine rides like a charm. I adjusted my windshield. Air pressure is at 37 psi. Shock Preload is at 4. Rides better than it ever has.
Hope you find your answer.

Thanks fellas. I'll try a little less pressure. Perhaps now that it's broken in, I can get away with a little less. I'll take Moon's suggestion and try 37. I kind of doubt shock bushings. Why would they just be worn out on the CT? Still.....I'll check them anyway, you never know. There's obviously a sweet spot that I haven't found yet. I'll keep messing with it.

X-Zackry The VTX was so well designed that the MT was used to mask all the little things that Honda missed or tried to cover up with crap materials. By using a CT you are able to locate the crap parts and replace them accordingly. Thus you end up with a better machine all around. Another plus for the CT.

Just sayin. Chill.

Ok, I increased shock pre load to 4, and changed the pressure from 40 to 37. After about 20 miles, I put the shocks back to 3. Bike stuck like glue to the curves, but on slow uneven ground it's very squirrelly again. How do you check the shock bushings? Maybe that's the problem, or maybe this is as good as it gets. It's manageable as it is now, and if I can get 12-15k miles from the tire, it'll be worth it. But as it is now, I'll never be one of those that "Wouldn't mount a MT if it was free".

Try dropping pressure to 32 ,that is where the sensetivity to uneven surfaces basicly left my nomad and my buddies 1300. Very Happy Very Happy

Ok, I'm skeptical, but I'll try 32 this afternoon and post back.

Thanks

I'll be damned What a Face 32 it is. Rides great, sticks like glue on the curves and does NOT hop over bumps in curves. The only beef I have is uneven surfaces, riding slowly. It's still squirrelly.

Dardre, it does feel a tad different on the uneven surfaces but you will get used to that characteristic pretty quick. All the plusses seriously out weigh that little quirk. About a 12 mile section of interstate I run daily has grooves from tires wore into it and I can ride through this hands free now. At first it rattled me a bit as I was not expecting it, but quickly learned the feel and how to manage it.

Good luck .... oh yeah, ... Welcome to the darkside
