just lowers your top end and make highway speeds run your engine faster.
you will take off quicker tho .

Very Happy Smile Laughing OH and if you hit a tree with the lower profile tire you could damage your bike Very Happy Laughing Laughing

I wanted a n2000 but was told that they don't make them anymore, so i went with a Nexen n641, others have gone with the N3000.
just check the date on the tire before you mount it , older tires are out there.
have fun and good luck

That looks NASTY!!! I LOVE that tire!!! I have a 1300VTX C, would that tire fit on mine??? And another question, as I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, what do you mean that the lower profile will make the engine scream on the highway, and what size would be better and not make it scream??? I'm sorry I have no knowledge on this matter, why are there 3 #'s on the tire???

The three tire numbers are the section width, then the "aspect ratio" and finally the rim size. The width is pretty simple to understand, it's just the widest point of the tire in millimeters. The second number tells you how tall the sidewall is, as a percentage of the width of the tire. The third number is in inches to indicate what size wheel the tire will fit.

To demonstrate I'll use the ideal car tire size: 235/75 15. That tire is 235 millimeters wide, and fits on a 15 inch rim. The sidewall height is 75% of 235 millimeters, or approximately 176mm.

Olds, Thank you for the explanation, you mentioned Ideal, is that size possible on a 1300??? Also what about the lower profile causing the engine to scream, how can I stay away from that??? Again, I'm sorry for the questions!!!

LOL, I don't think that tire will fit on any factory bike in existance. I was just joking around, but if you're into full-size cars of the 1960s and '70s, that's the tire size of choice.

The reason that a lower profile tire increases the engine rpm, is because the smaller the diameter of the tire, the smaller its circumferance. That means for each revolution of the tire, you are travelling a shorter distance. Therefore, the shorter the tire is, the more rpms your engine has to turn to go the same speed. Additionally, the more rpms your engine turns, the more fuel you'll be consuming.

Ideally, you'll probably want to pick a tire with a diameter, as close as possible to your factory tire. To match a 170/80 15 motorcycle tire, the closest tire sizes I know of are 195/70 15 and 205/65 15. There are a number of other tire sizes which will fit (and might be better depending on your personal preferences), but vary in diameter slightly.

Don't be sorry to ask questions, there's plenty of people on the forums more than happy to help out.

Congrats BigRed enjoy the better and safer ride.
Archangel, check one of the links about tire calculator, like http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
There's a;so a sticky regarding this topic, but I prefer this site.
If you want to buy a new tire also check some tires at the shop site by site since there's a lot of difference,
within the same sizes.
The Nexen is a good tire by the way, it was my first DS'er.

Depending on how wide the wheel is, the closest car tire to a 170/80-15 is going to be a 175/80R-15 like this,

185/75-15 like this....
