Brand new Darksider. I like the ride but......

Post  Darbre on Tue Jul 14, 2009 9:22 pm

Mounted my wheel tonight. No rubbing. Ride good but seems a little loose. It follows ever imperfection. A friend of mine has a shop with a bike lift and he helped me. The shop is in the back of his property. Driving out on the grass was very un-nerving. You have to ride between the carport and the house. Normally I go right through. Not tonight. Put my foot down several times getting through. I've got a 1800N. Installed a Goodyear TT 205/60/16 with 34#. I'm riding solo right now but 95% of my riding is two up. When I get comfortable on this tire I'll put my wife back on. Would more pressure help? Less?

Thanks

Less pressure helped mine on uneven road surfaces but is still bad on uneven gravel or dirt I am running 32# I have just gotten used to it on bad surfaces.doesn't seem so bad when you are expecting it .I am using same tire 205-60-16 GYTT.good luck and enjoy Very Happy Very Happy

first of all, try it out on the paved roads, then go up to 38psi and try that.
if that doesn't feel right then go down to 32 psi and go for another ride.
On my bike and my tire and the way I drive , I feel better with 36-40 psi, BUT
everyone will have to find the right pressure for your tire and the ride you like.
Someone told me that at 44psi he could drive over a quarter and tell you the year it was made.
I do know that driving in the dirt with the wideside 205 feels a lot different.
The tire will try to ride on the highest point that is under the tire.
just take it easy on dirt roads with ruts going down them.
good luck

It has been a few days now, does it ride any better. Most say it takes about 100 or so miles to get used to the ride. Then after that it's a cake walk...

Yep. All seems good now. I bumped the pressure up to 39, and have put about 300 miles on it now. It's still more sensitive to uneven surfaces. But it is definitely manageable. I've read that it takes 500 miles to really get the tire broken it so I suppose it'll just get better. I'm much more positive about it than I was last week!!

Good to hear. After a few thousand you wont even notice its there unless some one asks about it.
