Newbie here. Been looking at this site for a while and I am flat out impressed by the knowledge of the riders who post on this forum. Took the plunge to register tonight and I look forward to learning alot from you folks. I ride an 03 VTX Retro S model and I want to go Darkside after reading about the benefits of slapping CT on my bike. I have 13,345 miles on the bike and am on my second set of Dunlops, with my ass still sore from having to buy new meats for my ride so quickly.

I read quite a few posts about sealing the rims to mount CTs to a spoke rim. This is probably a really stupid question but here goes...why can't you just keep the tube inside the tire when you make the switch?

some folks do... but you can't plug a tire with a tube. and I THINK (don't quote me on it) it makes it a little harder to seat the bead and there is possible heat build-up from having the tube in there?

If I recall correctly there are lots of people with lots of miles on the spoke rims with CT's and tubes...

Both good points. Thanks for the response. Maybe I should be looking into getting a set of cast wheels instead. I saw a post on that topic, so I'll follow that thread.
