bfg tires?

Post  fishvtx on Sat Jun 06, 2009 5:51 pm

I have decided to go to the darkside and I have been doing a lot of searching for tires. Has anyone tried using BF Goodrich tires? I haven't seen anyone saying they have used them on here and thought maybe they weren't worthy of consideration. BF Goodrich Traction TA have a good looking tread and are easy to find and easy on the wallet. The speed rating may be a bit low, but I don't do a lot of high speed riding. I know BFG truck tires are well known for having very stiff sidewalls so maybe that's why no one uses them. Just wanted to know if there is evidence against using this tire. Neutral

not that I recall off the top of my head... have you browsed the list in the stickies at the top of this forum to see if anyone has that tire or one like it listed as the one they are running?

Welcome to the site!

Hello Fish ,
welcome to the best forum on the NET.
As for the BF Goodrich tires ,,, try it if it works for you then we have a new tire to add to the list, as for most everyone else , they put on a tire that someone has already been riding on for awhile .
March to the beat of a different drum, I say. In other words go and do it if it works then you have a unique ride and the first to use that tire , if it doesn't work then you have helped someone else from making the same mistake you did by letting them know how you failed miserably , then shamelessly posted it here for all to see . Very Happy Smile Sad Surprised Shocked affraid affraid affraid affraid
OK just joking , we would like you to come over to the Darkside and you can use whet tire you want , just let us know about it , and take photos we like pics here.
Good luck, have fun

installed the new tire today and took her out for a ride. Definitely some quirks to get used to, mostly low speed handling. What are ya'll recommending as far as air pressure? What a Face

Congrats on your darkside! Give it about 300 miles and it will become second nature to you!

300 miles is about right. Rode her to work for a solid week on roads I know like the back of my hand and it really did grow on me. Looking forward to not watching the tire wear out day after day like the Metz did. I am running about 32 psi in it but as I read I may bump it up to 36 or so. Love the look. Razz

Sorry to be out of the loop on this thread. My 1st DS tire was a 205/55/16 BFG gForce sport. Fairly inexpensive and stuck like glue. A bit to short for my liking though. Rode and handle great. Only put 14K miles on it before replacing with 205/65/16 Mich HE. BFG had about 1/3 tread usable at 14K when removed.

Welcome Fish.
Yeah give it some more time. After a while you will get over the querks of the tire. Most of it is in the head. I swapped rides with a friend a week or so ago and he did not even know that there was a car tire back there. He pushed the bike fairly hard, harder than I do anyway. He rides a sport bike. And is very capible on two wheels. After the ride he commented on how nice the bike rode and then I pointed out the tire. He said he would never would have pushed it as hard as he did knowing it was back there. Said it did not slip and handled great. So there you go. Sometimes you just gotta ride it to know it.

Enjoy the bike and let all that stinkin thinkin leave your brain.

Peace
Moon
