Wobble and Tire Pressure

Post  LasPulgas on Sat May 30, 2009 12:58 pm

My 1800R was darksided when I bought it. I always rode it pretty easy as I have sport type bikes for tearing up the curves. So I took a long road trip recently and rode with some cruiser hooligans and had a real eye opening (and butt puckering) experience.

I was running about 43 psi in my Khumo solus P205/65/R16 H rated tire. I also have dyna beads but have no idea how much. We were entering sweepers at fairly high speed and as soon as I hit 85mph I got a full on tank slapper wobble! Fu@K! I was ready to yank that tire on the spot. We got back to the barn and my buddy suggest's reducing air pressure by 5 lb incriments. Sounds good so I start at 35 psi, Wobble still there but "different". 30 psi., still there but way less. 25 psi and bingo! Gone!

Like I said, the wobble only occured at 85mph and faster in curves. Anybody else have an experience like this?

it has happened, typically not with dyna beads unless it's something else causing the issue... loose head bearings? How many miles on the scooter? Stock or aftermarket shocks and have the bushing been replaced/are they rubber or poly? How's the front tire, starting to cup or get pretty worn? All these can cause and/or contribute to what you got goin on!

22K on the odometer, head bearings are good and tight (checked before the trip), new front tire, stock shocks dialed all the way up, aftermarket shock bushings good and solid. Like I said, it handles great now, all speeds all angles and that low pressure really soaks up the bumps!
