Dynabeads Empty Dynabeads

Post  dsspunkler Tue Sep 23, 2008 12:34 am

Been on the Darkside for awhile now and love it. I've put about 1,500 on my CT and have lead weight for balance. My ?'s are, I have no idea how much goop the tire dude used or didn't use. Has it been long enough to assume that anything inside has dried up or doesn't it dry up? I've ordered the beads and am looking to install them soon. Also I ordered 4oz. 3 for the rear and 1 for the front. Sound about right? also should i remove my exsisting lead on the rims? Thanks in advance. also check out youtube under darkside to see some good footage of CT's in action. Would be a good resource for newbies.

Dynabeads Empty re: Dyna Beads

Post  Clay-san Tue Sep 23, 2008 8:02 am

Just yesterday I called a Dyna Bead dealer about 2 miles from my home and they are willing to put on a CT w/DynaBeads it if they aren't responsible for the results - okay I'll take the credit!
For info on how many to use, see:
www.innovativebalancing.com
There you will find the following chart:
Motorcycles
Motorcycle applications are easy for all road bikes.

Front
80 - 120 mm tire width 1 oz
80 - 120 mm tire width BMW (all) 2 oz
Rear
130 mm - 240 mm width 2 oz
250 mm - 360mm tire width 3 oz
195 - 205 car tires on the rear 3 oz
Scooters
10" diameter wheels (scooters) 1 oz
12" & Up diameter wheels (scooters) 2 oz

On my 04 1800C I plan to do 3 oz with CT rear and 2 oz for my front.
I'm looking forward to removing the ugly weights - that's a BIG reason I plan to go with the beads.

1500 miles is plenty long. I wait about 500, and when I took my tire off last, the beads were rolling free and easy. So 1500 is good.

Yes, take off the lead weights.

2oz in your front tire...it's on the wider side of normal.

When you install, it really helps to use an egraving tool to vibrate the valve stem. Let's the beads flow in nice and easy.

Let us know how it goes.

Yep and if you dont have an engraving tool a palm sander (without sandpaper) works good too.
Or if that isn't handy a pencil and a lot of tapping will work, but at a lot slower pace....

Well guys, I tried something the other day just to see if it would work and.....it did! We put .20gram air soft pellets in the tires on our karts we raced! The seem to work great! Instead of dyna beads in my next tire I am going to use the air soft pellets! You can buy them at Walmart!

Here is like the ones I used, the picture size is blown up to see what they look like! .20grams size, approx. 140 count to an oz.

Dynabeads 597px-Airsoft_pellets

These are the .12 gram ones...remember I used the .20 gram so it wouldn't take so many!

Nope.....You have to add these while the tire is half ON the rim! NOTICE (THEY WILL NOT FIT THRU THE VALVE STEM !)

My bad, I should have explained! These are pellets for air soft rifles and pistols. They are only size diameter to fit the guns, but different weights! I have found them in .12 and .20 grams so far! If you used the lighter ones it would just take a heck of a bunch more of them! So, neither air soft pellet will go thru the valve stem!

Dynabeads Empty All this talk....

Post  Ghenghisron Sat Apr 25, 2009 3:49 pm

All this talk of DynaBeads....I just ordered mine (regular USPS, it's cheaper (I know, I'm a tight-arse)), can't wait for them to get here. As some of the others, I had already ordered mine before the post of the airsoft pellets. But I guarantee that I'll be putting those in the new tires I just put on my 4WD. That old 95 dodge can use all the help it can get!! What a Face

Twin,

Are the air soft pellets still working good for you? I'm brand new to this forum but have been reading a lot. So much so that I already bought my tire (Bridgestone Potenza G009 195/65R15 for my VTX1300C. My stock tire got a wood screw in it and went flat but it also had 10,000+ miles on it! I've got the bike up on blocks but haven't got the rear wheel off yet.

I was gonna order Dyna Beads but then read this thread. I have plenty of air soft pellets at home and just wanted to see how yours are doing for you? I have the .20 gram that I would put in my tire.

Also, a lot of my ridding buddies think I'm nuts for doing this (CT on my bike) but I'm hoping to show them how much better it is once I have it installed and get some seat time on it. I put over 7,000 miles on the bike in 12 months so it sure seems to me that from what I've ready about going to the Darkside I'll be a lot better off.

Thanks to all of you for sharing your info and experiences, I look forward to giving a ride report once my conversion is complete.

Troy,

Congrats on your darkside and YES the air soft pellets are doing fine! I have a new front wheel to install in a couple of weeks and they are going in it!

Post  midwestrider Wed Jun 24, 2009 11:13 am

Great! Thanks for the response. I got the motorcycle tire off last night and the Potenza G009 on the rim. I also got the air soft pellets into the tire by using tire iron and prying the bead back of the rim a little bit so there was room for the pellets to go in. I tried to seat the CT but was unsuccessful. I had a tie down strap around the tire but it's the pull kind not the ratcheting. My little compressor could only get about 104 psi in the tire. I was also using dish soap on the bead. But, I still could only get about 3/4 of the bead seated on both side of the rim.

I'm assuming that I need to use a ratcheting strap and a higher capacity air compressor. One question I do have is did you guys remove the shrader valve when trying to bead the tire or just leave it in? I left mine in and built up pressure a step at a time as the compressor re-pressurized.

I'm gonna check with my neighber tonight to see if he's got a bigger compressor and I was also told by a friend to try KY jelly instead of dish soap. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the help!

Troy take the schrader valve out!!!!!!! You don't want that much pressure on a tire and then you have to relieve it by hand after the bead seats and the tire ruptures!!!!! (it has happened before that the tire ruptures) SAFETY at all cost! The darkside is NOT worth you getting hurt. We use lock on air chucks with a quick disconnect that is on the other end of the hose from the locking air chuck and we release the pressure away from the tire at the compressor! Please DO NOT seat your bead in this manner!
