I run the douglas 205 and love it so much that I have an extra one because it was a good deal. My question, have any of you had the douglas and tried something else which you found to be better? If so, maybe I will make the switch next time and leave the other douglas in the shed. I don't want a taller tire though because I like the low feel and the low end power. Any suggestions? I have about 9k on it now and have a long ways to go.

I've had the kumho 165 and it was a bit more nimble with slow turns. Felt more like a motorcycle tire. Wideside is not for everyone. Looks cool and handles great on the interstate. But if you drive mainly around town, a more narrow tire may be more suited to you.

I love my douglas 205. Went on easy and rides great. Next tire will be a 195 or 185. Probably barum, goodyear, or Michelin...although I like Moon's Toyo. We'll see. Gotta get up close and personal with them when the time comes. I have 10k or so on mine and it has a long way to go. Darn thing just won't wear out! ;-)

My advice it try a different tire. Keep the spare douglas. If you get your wheel off and can't get the new tire to bead up, just pull the old douglas out of the shed and put her on.

I tell ya'....I have thought about it also! Should I try something else than the Douglas, but my wife and I rode last nite together and the Douglas is one awesome tire! Smooth as glass! I don't know if I will change or not! I want to just for trying purposes, but dang....I don't know how much better it can get!

I know that I am Old Skool on the car tire because I am still running the 165, but I really like it. Like Steve said it feels like the MT and really is less of a mental change for me. I like the wide side but don't know if I will ever go there. I have over 10k on the Kumho and will probably go back to it when this thing wears out. As I sit here and type this I think it is kind of funny that a guy that would challenge the norm of tires on a bike sees no reason to change. Let me be the first to say it.....165R15s are for bikes (and vw's). We will see because I really like the directional tires.

Twin,

does the Douglas 205 go on the 1300 without any conversions to fender and/or such? I've got a friend that is itching to go Darkside.

THanks!

Well you might have to turn an exhaust bolt around when you have the tire off. I mentioned this to my tire guy and he forgot to do it... now I have a couple of sidewall rubs to thank him for. (I just pulled the bolt out all together.)

Forgot about that. Yes turn the exhaust bolts around with the stock exhasut.I have about 18,000 on my Douglas. It will not wear out. gone through 2 front tires though, so I'm spending enough there.

Douglas 205/65/15 vs. other 65 series Empty Newbie to the darkside!!!!

Post  terryjr68 Wed May 06, 2009 9:45 pm

Hello guys (and gals) I just installed a 195-65-15 goodyear triple tread on my 2007 VTX 1300R. Fits like a glove. I do notice going by a gps that the speedo is 10mph fast. Is there any cure for that? Or should I just accept it a black hole of the darkside? What tire pressure is good for safe riding and a good feel for the road. This is my first real bike and after 9500 miles of loving it I would hate to drop it at any speed.

A speedo healer will run you about $100. Mines off by 12% So I know how far off it is all the time......that gives me an extra 100 for gas

That's why we suggests the 205 instead of the 195....keeps you speedo a lot closer! Speedo healer is the only cure now!
