Speedometer/Odometer Accuracy
I ride an 03 1800VTX R. I know that my speedometer reads 5 mph faster than it should. When it says 40 mph, the radar has me at 35.
Does this mean that my odometer is also off the same amount, meaning that I am racking up more miles than I am actually traveling?

Re: Speedometer/Odometer Accuracy
sometimes.
There are actually two gears that control the two different functions. I've measured the distance between green stakes on the highway and they match up perfectly with the odometer. Speedometer is off 5% or so.
Other folks on other bikes say both are affected.
I ride a VT1100C

Re: Speedometer/Odometer Accuracy
both of mine were off by 20% and now that i have the taller tire only about 6-8% , but any taller tire and I would have to much grinding to do and i think i am at or close to the max right now. (vtx 1300 C)

Re: Speedometer/Odometer Accuracy
Looks like after all the feedback and lots of searching I will go with the "Speedohealer".
Thanks one and all for the information and opinions.

Re: Speedometer/Odometer Accuracy
while back there was a lot of discussion on this in a couple threads on the OA, seemed to me that the speedo was off by about an average of 5% and the odo was always pretty close to spot on (with a stock size tire)... that seemed to be the consensus then. Best way to know for sure is check both with a GPS.
