T1R 215 45ZR18 for my F model

Post  HOOKY on Sun Oct 12, 2008 1:16 pm

Been saving this picture for a couple of years now. It's a T1R 215 45ZR18.

The pic is of it on an F. I want to put it on my F. Any problems with this instal? Or is it just a bolt on.

Thanks for the replys Gents. The LIVTXRiders have our yearly Shining Light Run this weekend and I have to do some Road Captain work.
So I plan on doing this some time next week. I'll post up here first what I think.

Thanks again.

Hooky- did you put it on? How well did it go for you?

I used a grinder to cut the bottom edge of the inner fender supports off, and a chunk off the helmet lock. I don't think I had to, but the wheel was off so I figured I might as well. Sprayed a little rustoleum paint on it. I removed the dust ring and I think I held it against the rim while working the wheel in. Then reconnected the dust ring, then lifted the wheel up and into the splines. I also had to bend a little clip that holds a brake line out of the way a little bit (it was on the right side and the tire was bumping it while I was trying to angle it in).

I'm not much of a mechanic but with Bare's directions I thought it was easy & fun.

42-45 psi for me
Hard for me to be exact, I lose a pound of air when I check it, and 1 pound seems like 2 seconds when filling. Smile

I'm chuckling a little as I write this because it's painfully obvious I've missed something everyone else gets. At first blush I thought is this a trick question? After all I reckon if its on an F it stands to reason it will go on your F also. Since it struck no one else as an odd question I'll just figure that I did, in fact, miss something here and move on.

Better late then never Embarassed I finaly got the wheel off and kinda tried putting in just the tire. It doesn't look too good fellas. It's rubbing on the inner sides of the swing arm. Will it get skinier when on the rim and it has air in it?

it fits... I didn't even try it off the tire... There are over a dozen people running them. It's close once it on! But it'll fit! Wink

Yes the sides get rolled in when mounted on the rim, adding a tiny bit more curve to the profile. I didn't think it was much closer to the swingarm than the 180 Dunnie. Looks like 1/4" away. It just looks wider because of the squareness.

ok just talked to a pal about mounting it to the wheel for me. I should have this done by the end of the week, if all goes well.
Cord I took your advice and ground off the bracket that holds the break line hose on the inner part of the swing arm. I left the fender rails and the helmet lock alone for now.
I'll post up as I go.....thank you all for the help.
Any of you guys headed to Daytona for bike week this year?

Excuse the dirt n grime gents but here she is. She went on like a knife through butter.

Thank you all for the confidence that it would be an easy job. It's like 24* here so I only went for a short tide like 5 miles.
It felt great at 33lbs when I left and a little more stubborn at 44lbs when I returned. Nothing that is even that hard to adjust to. I like it I do bounce cheers

Cool deal. Ride it and tell us you thoughts. Please play with pressures and tell us/ what you found to be best. I have not been able to ride lately due to being offshore. Would be good to hear what you got to say about it.

Thanks

Well fallas I took her out for a spin today after work. Two hours later I found my way back home.
I hit every exit ramp like a bat outta hell. Even scraped the right peg a bit Very Happy
With the 44lbs in her I see a little belly when she's on the kick stand. That would only be bigger with me on and the force of the turn. That's a good thing. More rubber to the ground on the turns.
The max rating on the tire is 40lbs though. Is it cool to keep her over that?
Also she deffenatly got skinier when on the rim. She fit in between the swing arm with room to spare.
She was fatter with out the rim. Just thought I'd make that note.

this is with 44lbs just sittin on the stand.

Here's an interesting thing for you guys....a local dealer wouldn't give me an inspection Mad Evil or Very Mad and then he told me he'd be nice nuff to forgo the $6 fee just for looking at it. Razz

I had to get it through a friend that has a friend Laughing

If you notice the belly in the tire. I would only imagine it get a biger belly when sitting on it and into a turn. I'd hate to run it with any less pressure. Well maybe when I undress her. Take off the bags, shield and backrest etc...lose the wiffie and then maybe I could run 35-40psi.
