Hard Road to the Darkside

Post  12RPilot on Thu Oct 09, 2008 12:45 pm

First of all, the Bridgestone Turanza 205/60-16 was a bitch to get on the rim. The C rim just doesn't have a very deep valley in the middle, so the mounting was tougher than some. (Note to self, scrap the Harbor Freight tire machine). After balancing, it was again challenging just to get the tire in place between the swingarm. My sidewalls seemed too wide. I had to jack the bike way up, place the tire under the swingarm, and let the bike down slowly while working (wiggling) the tire between the hub and right side arm. It finally squeezed past and the rest of the install was normal. Went for a ride expecting some dramatic difference in handling but not much to be noticed. It seems the CT is more affected by roads with a steep crown. When swerving back and forth down the road the transition from right to left feels different than a MT. My short test ride didn't involve any twisties (which are rare in my area) but I'll get to that soon and report the results. So far, just feels planted and stable.

So I would guess the question would be "was it worth the effort to put it on?"

was for me and I had to take off my exhaust and drop my exhaust bracket out of the way....

It may be more difficult to put on, but you will do it 1/3 as often!
