tire feedback...
hey all, new here and been reading about going darkside for awhile now, I like the looks and the price of the Hankook Radial K106 205/55/R16. $80 bucks, mounted and balanced. Can anyone that has run this tire give me any feedback?
thanks, Craig

Re: tire feedback...
I'm not saying nobody has run the tire, but I'm not familiar with it. Do you have any pictures of the tire? Why did you choose it?

Re: tire feedback...
they're made by Michilin, it has a very similar tread as the Goodyear Eagle F1. One reason i chose it was the price, and after going to a bunch of tire places and getting laughed at and told how i was gonna die, the guy here understood. He races bikes and has had cruisers. He says he wants me to stop back after it's together and tell him how it worked out. That was a big reason too, he's one of us...
thanks, Craig

Cool..just curious, wasn't a criticism. Go for it. You will probably be the first one to report back to US how it is.

Re: tire feedback...
guess i mis-spoke, Michlin owns the company that makes that tire, they don't actually make it.
NO offense taken BTW, very cool ride Sir...

it's on....
installed the Hankook K-104 Radial yesterday, 205/55/16, on my retro. Took it to work this morning, it took less than 2 miles to scrape the floorboard for the 1st time on a C/T. SWEET!!!
Looks sick, feels great, hit the highway and wound it up to 110, very smooth. Feels funny on roads with swales, but I knew it would. Seems to snap up straight coming out of a corner quicker than with a M/T, so I felt like i could hold it in the turn a bit longer. Sounds like there is less rolling noise than before too. I turned around on a crowned backroad and the bike was harder to back up, didn't want to lean when the bars were turned, but i'm sure it's just the bigger flat spot holding it upright. Also the bike doesn't lean over as far as it did on the kickstand, looks better sitting there.
After just 50 or so miles, I'm lovin it. 80 bucks mounted, really lovin it!! So yea add me to the list!
thanks for this site, great info,
Craig

Re: tire feedback...
Welcome aboard, glad you're diggin it. The smaller than stock O.D. of the tire is probably why it backs up harder, mine is easier with the larger O.D., less rolling resistance. Try different tire pressures to see what you prefer. Have fun!

Re: tire feedback...

I'm personally really happy with 41psi. Glad you're enjoying the tire, man. Too bad you'll get killed every day on it.

Re: tire feedback...
ok, upped the pressure to 40 psi, huge difference! Very smooth on the highway, passing TT's and some nasty cape cod crosswinds hardly bothered the bike, very stable. Seems a lot more sure-footed in corners too. When I don't think about that big flat spot, i corner just like before, when i think about the c/t, i go easy, think it corners as good or better than with a new avon venom.
thanks again for all the great info here,
Craig

twin 1300, please do add me to the list! I need a couple hundred more miles, as I'm going to Deal's Gap/BRP in a month. Although I feel real comfy with it already.

tire feedback
pics are comin... just wanted to let you all know that i just spent 4 and a half days in the Deal's Gap area. I pushed the C/T way further than a m/t on some corners...LOVE IT!! even wet roads it stuck. We did the gap, the skyway, Wolf's Den Gap in GA. and 160 miles of the BRP. got about 2600 miles on the C/T and the 1 thing , and it ain't a big deal , that the M/T was better at is a slight but quick move at speed. Like if you're close ( i'd never tailgate a cage...) to a car and a piece of debris appears from under the car, i feel with the M/T i could swerve around it quicker than now. But if ya don't tailgate a cage ya should have plenty of time to miss it!
I don't see myself going back, kinda liking the Darkside....

Re: tire feedback...
With the 205, it takes more effort to countersteer. Not a lot, but noticeable. I have had the 165 adn 205 on mine. I noted the same thing. With the 165, the bike was "quicker" to maneuver. More nimble if you will. Not something peculiar to the car tire, but to the width of the tire. That's just my observation anyway. Now, I have noted that the wide tire is more stable at speed on the highway.
Both size tires will do twisties, but the wide tire will take more push to countersteer - more noticeable in the S curves.
I noticed that same thing with the wide tire and was considering moving down at some point in time. But I took a long trip with all my gear this weekend. Went through some twisties on highway 62 in OK and the tire performed just fine. I noticed how much more stable the tire was on the interstate, especially at 75+ and have decided that, since that is how I do most of my riding, I'll probably stay with a wide tire.
I have an 1100 and you 1800 guys may not notice this as much.
BTW: Good looking tire!

Spud's CT
Hey All,
Just wanted to post a pic ( or at least take a stab at it) for my riding buddy, Spud. He's a great rider, but not so hot at posting pics. I was following him through the twisties at the Gap this past week. I love the look of the CT on the retro, and I've been thinking of one for my N. Now I just have to talk the hubby into letting me do it
Hope you don't mind if I stick around a while and learn about the "darkside".
Here's a pic of Spuds CT I took a couple of weeks ago.

Re: tire feedback...
Tire looks cool, but it doesn't look like the K106 on the discount tire website.

tire feedback
Steve-O, it's not the K-106. that's what i wanted, but the K-104 had corners that were a bit more rounded. The K-106 looks way sicker though...maybe next time.
