Lookin for lowers

Post  Tater1800 on Mon Sep 08, 2008 9:58 pm

Needin some fitment advice. On my 03 vtx 1800 c, I have the National Cycle windshield with the quick dismount system. Love the windshield, but am lookin for a set of lowers to cut down the wind coming up from the lower area of the bike. Cruiser Customizing website has 2 diff ones listed, botht made by National Cycle. One is a part number NC-N764 and one is a part number NC-N76607. Both look the same, and cant seem to get a straight answer thru email from the manufacturer as the what the difference is. Anyone have either one of these? Do the lowers cut down on the wind and are they worth the money? Thanks guys. Lots of info on here, has helped a lot.

With my VERY limited knowledge of lowers I'd bet one PN is for spec 1 and 2 bike and one PN is for the Spec 3 bikes with the fork tubes....

BUT you/them/seller need to make sure which is which so you get the right ones the first time... Call the manufacturer again and let them know the spec of the bike...

Yes and so does mine but when you turn the handlebars the wind deflectors will touch the highway bars .
and go to this :
http://shop.nationalcycle.com/perl/cycle/nbrowse
and that will find the right everything for your bike , write it all down and if you have questions they have a phone number that you can call and ask about fitment .

I agree with all this, but for future reference spec 2 also has chrome fork tubes Wink

Without lowers my full face helmet shakes my glasses and it is hard to see. With lowers some of the buffeting is still there, but I can see. cheers That said, I don't use the windshield at all during the summer. It is for extending my riding season.

I have the national cycle switchblade windshield and lowers on my '02 1800r.The lowers make a big difference on the amount of wind buffeting my face. The lowers actually mount to the windshield mounts so it doesn't make any difference which spec bike you have.

Yotaman -

Are those lowers tinted? They look like it in your photos but on the hdl page the ones I'm seeing look clear. Just curious cuz I'm looking to get a set.

They look good that way with the smoke lower windshield. My entire windshield is clear so I'll probably leave them that way. I have a couple quick questions though. It appears to me that they are rigid and the angle of the pitch cannot be adjusted. Is that the case? Also I'm curious about what you replaced the original plastic with. Did you cut them out and fab them yourself or is there someone who makes replacements?

This probably won't be terribly useful to anyone else but I finally got it done. I bought the National Cycle type they make for those that don't attach to the windshield brackets because I have a Hondaline windshield. That type attach to the fork tubes. Mine is a spec 2 so the brackets didn't fit. I called them and he just couldn't "figure out why they wouldn't fit because they've been selling thousands for years and they always work. Of course if I don't have standard forks, that won't work with their bracket." They would be happy to give me a refund but if I figured a way to make them work be sure to let him know. I found them less than helpful. I really wanted the deflectors and really liked the polished stainless so I tried to modify them. Couldn't get there from here. So I bought the Hondaline lowers and used their bracket and the National Cycle deflectors. Just had to drill a hole in each deflector. Real pricey. But I'm pleased with the result and they make a big difference. Here they be, for what it's worth.

Third one is kinda blurry but I reckon you get the idea.
