Post  sam_henric Tue Sep 16, 2008 5:28 pm

Hello everyone,
I have a 2003 VTX 1800C and I bought a Goodyear Assurance Triple Tread 205/60/16 tire. My stock Dunflops have around 7k miles on them and they are about to give out. A couple of quick questions:
1. Where do I go to get the new tire mounted?
2. Generally, how much does it cost?
Thanks for all the help!

I went to a Wal - Mart- purchased the tire and they monted it with there mag machine. I recommend calling Wal-Mart in your area and asking them if they would mount it.

There are 4 hooks on the machine but can only get three on the C wheel. It worked for me...... took a whole 10 minutes.

Let me know your results.

$20 if you take just the wheel in
$45 if they have to take it off the bike

You're in Garland, so in your area:
There is a bike shop in Frisco that will do it. But you need to call first.
I'd ask High Five and see if they would do it.
Onei took his to a honda dealer and they did it. So go figure. Not sure Al Lambs will do this, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

If you can, just take the wheel in and tell them it's for a trike, drag bike, pay in cash and don't want a receipt, etc.

I'm in Richardson and can help you pick out a tire if you like....unless you have a tire already picked out. If it's a "proven" tire, half the work is done.

Thanks for all the help guys...I will be replacing the tire this weekend and I will be posting pics and a review as well. Hopefully everything goes smooth and without any problems. A quick story...I noticed that my bike was handling and riding a bit sluggish. I checked my tire pressure yesterday and I was so surprised! I was running at 32psi in the front and 28psi in the rear...needless to say I was shocked. After filling the tires back up to 38/40 the bikes handles and rides a lot better.

Tire pressure is the reason that an air compressor will pay for itself.

Ready to enter into the Darkside... Empty FINALLY GOT IT DONE!!!

Post  sam_henric Mon Nov 03, 2008 5:09 pm

Sorry guys...I have been extremely busy with school and haven't had a chance to even go around and get the tire mounted. WOW...what a day guys...I went to Wal-Mart and three other small tire shops and got the same story from ALL of them. They all told me "We don't have the right machine, we might damage the rim." My last ditch effort was the local Honda stealership and to my surprise, they said they would do it! $45 later, I now have my Goodyear Advantage Triple Tread 205/60/16 in my garage. I will mount it when my dad comes home tonight and tell you guys how everything went. Thanks for all the help guys!

Ready to enter into the Darkside... Empty FIRST DARKSIDE IMPRESSIONS

Post  sam_henric Mon Nov 03, 2008 10:28 pm

Well...I took it out for a spin and it was quite interesting. I will definitely have to get used to it. The tire is on a 2003 VTX1800C and is a Goodyear Triple Tread 205/60/16.
Pros: Definitely improved ride - much smoother
Riding in a straight line is very stable
Cons: It take a lot of effort in leaning to shift left and right
Bike seems to trail to the right when in a straight line
I think that the main problem is me not being used to leaning with the bike this much. I think I will get used to it after a few more miles under my belt.

Are you talking about counter steering?

I don't think I have to lean at all, at least not conscientiously. I have to push a bit harder when countersteering. This what you are talking about?

Yes...I mean counter-steering. On the M/T I would lean with the bike more than counter-steer. Now I definitely have to counter-steer more than leaning with the bike.

WOW...that's awesome looking tire! I like the extra countersteer, now I feel like I am riding instead of falling in a turn and having to over correct from turning too much of a radius! It has made me a much better rider and way more comfortable!................... Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Thanks a lot Twin! I really am starting to like it now as well. Like many have said before...its not better or worse...just different. The more I ride, the better I like it. I still think I need to get some more miles on the tire and adjust the psi a little bit to find the sweet spot. I am definitely NEVER going back to a motorcycle tire again!

I have the same tire, and after riding about 500 miles now, I think it's fantastic. After the first day, I really didn't notice much anymore as far as turns. You will get use to it in no time. I think the overall ride on mine greatly improved, even the wife commented the ride was much smoother. I can't rmember who made the comment here about it rolling better, definately true. So, becareful when on inclines or parking on inclines.

You will absolutely love the GYTT. It is a GREAT tire. Remember...it will be a little awkward when you first ride it...remember to counter-steer and don't be afraid when leaning. My sweet spot is 42psi so you might want to start there and find your sweet spot. Overall, you will be extremely pleased. We might just have to organize a TRIPLE TREAD DARKSIDE group Wink...maybe offer 2 cookies for joining!Have fun and ride safe!

Roy welcome to the site. Glad to have you here. Ride carfully the first 100-200 miles to make sure you get the mold release off. Then go have some fun and put it through its paces. You will notice that it feel different like everyone says. Riding a ct is 99% mental. Have fun....

I have the same gytt on 05 1800c. Loved it first rattle out of the box. 4k on it now and diggin it even more. I always counter steerd anyway so it was just a matter of how much pressure. It's a great tire and any ct is a great way to ride.

Hey M50,
My first bike was a blue M50...I loved it Smile . The only reason I got the VTX was because of a really good deal Cool. I would have loved to see what the darkside felt like on that bike...it packs quite a punch for a 805cc bike. How do you like it Question

Hi all my name is john i owne a vtx 1800 cf3 , and i bought a hydroedge and had n.t.b .mount the tire they done an awsome job. Just wanted to tell all that if you are having trouble getting people to do this for you tell them the tire is going on a trike they are more likely to mount it then. Anyway it coast me $ o.oo to get it mounted through N.T.B. . I love the way it handels and im good with the way it corners. Im hoping i will get some where's close to the 90k that they say. Very Happy
