I'm probably going to head out in an hour or two and check the speedy against the GPS to see what it's like.

I'm SOOOO glad I did this myself because the shop I had do my tire installed it with moly GREASE, not paste. that seems fine for a few thousand miles, but I'm seeing red, frankly. I was really surprised at how easy it was. One more thing I'm comfortable doing, so I can just bring the wheel along for tire installation. Whoo hoo!

What's "Check your thread O.B." mean?

So I took her out for a little GPS testing. I was never more than about 1 to 1.2 mph off... @ 70 indicated I was going like 70.8 to 71. @ 80 indicated, the highest I saw was 81.2. So I think 1 mph off @ 75 is close enough for government work.

Other Board, you already did. Wink For our gov.? You're closer than that! Just out of curiosity, how accurate is GPS supposed to be for indicating speed?

I would think it depends on the unit. The important thing about the GPS is that you need to really get the indicated needle steady and then watch the GPS over the course of several seconds, as the speed is an averaging tool. I think it's PRETTY accurate. It could be a tiny bit high, and could be a tiny bit low... so the statements I make about GPS speed are usually based on at least 20 seconds of observations at a constant speed, and sort of a "neighborhood average in my head" kind of deal.

first the bike looks GREAT!. did you put a 1300 rear end on it? I keep seeing posts about it, and want more info as I am not too crazy about the way these bikes are geared, it feels like 5th is only good above 70MPh to me. otherwise it feels like you are lugging it.

If you WANT to be in 5th gear at LOWER speeds, then the 1300 final drive is NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT for you. The 1300 drive runs at lower RPMs.

Now... I wonder at anyone who would suggest that the 1800 drive "lugs" at 70.... but if you didn't like the performance of the 1800 drive in 5th gear at 70, you'd HATE the 1300 drive.

For me, with the 18 drive, I was comfortable in 5th gear at 60, but was looking for 6th gear. With the 1300 drive, I don't shift to 5th until I'm going 65 to 70, or even higher. It feels a lot more like a 6th gear.

If you want to raise the rpm a little, you can achieve that with a low profile tire.

Makes sense, since Morg's is right on with 1300 final, and the 205/55-16 with a smaller O.D.
