How easy to take off rear wheel? Empty How easy to take off rear wheel?

I'm semi-mechanically inclined. Meaning I have worked on engines, changes brakes, alternators, oil, even rebuilt an engine ONCE ... then promised God I would never do that again. Shocked I don't really get a kick outta working on 'machines' but I do get a kick outta saving money.

So ... If I take off the wheel myself I can have someone change it for $10.00 vs. $100.00 to have them remove the wheel and remount it. I have a motorcycle jack and have had my bike in the air on it. I have a maintenance manual and know how to read. I just want to know for you guys who have done this before ... how many times will I cuss in the process of removing/installing my rear wheel? Suspect

Removing and reinstalling that rear tire is real easy, just be sure to tie off the bike so it can't fall over when slide the wheel off of the splines on the final drive, makin he rear of the bike suddenly much lighter than the front.
You'll be amazed how easy it is, plus you have a copy of the serive manual, a jack, and you know how hand tools work! You're all set!

Just some advice strap down the bike to the MC jack and use a torque wrench on the rear axle nut so you don't over tighten it.
moly grease and moly paste are not the same.
Other then that you are all set.
Good luck,

Yup, you got the advice.. only thing I'd add is that putting the bike on a stand is awesome. For one thing, once you've jacked it onto a stand, you can use the jack to assist with the tire.

Absolutely, absolutely get your moly paste before you do anything, like put the wheel back on. There is no substitute.

Morgan has the right idea; Bareasschoppers.com Bare has good instructions plus great pictures to walk you through the steps to remove both front and rear wheels. Follow his directions and you can't go wrong. After doing it once you will find it takes more time to get the jack and tools together than the act of removing the tire. Good luck with the removal.
