Darkside Foots Mod
Ok...the 205/65/16 Michelin HydraEdge is on. The Foots mod was a piece of cake once I got my axle out...guess 13k was a bit too long to leave it in. lol.
Both wheels side by side
The old 165r15 on the bike
The new and improved 205/65/16 Michelin HydraEdge Foots Mod
Nice shiny 1800C wheel, rotor and black caliper...what to do with the front caliper?!?
I only got about 300 miles on it now, but I will say that over the 165r15 I seem to have a better lower end...bike just goes.
Also it seems to handle even better than the 165 to me...might be because the 165 was getting old or the wider tire itself. It dives into the corners even harder than the 165 did.
And the ride is even smoother over rough roads and railroad tracks.
Only down fall I've found..it's much much harder to break loose. [/quote]

Re: Darkside Foots Mod
Just makes me wonder if I can do the Foots mod on a R/S model when I get the money/parts

Sure can!! Same thing... all the VTX rims are interchangeable to a point... you could even go with a F wheel if you felt like it...
I know where one is for sale with a Toyo on it...
Sweet deal on the foots mod! That tire looks HUGE!!

Re: Darkside Foots Mod
I went with the C since it matched the front...wish the front wheels were interchangeable...I'd have found some F wheels...alas the duel front brakes make it a challenge...well at least uber expensive...i'd love to swap the entire front end over..forks and all.
edit...once it quits raining I'm gonna take some more shots from the side to do a side by side of old vs new...there's a huge difference and it really really looks soo much better...polished pieces don't hurt either.

Re: Darkside Foots Mod
Just glad I had bought the trunk, new hard bags and the 1800 wheel before we found out.
I'll be done for a bit...unless I find the $800 for that Wide Open fairing.

What do you mean by saying it's harder to break loose?
Re: Darkside Foots Mod
It is harder to do a burnout with the 205 on. Twin used to do rolling burnouts all the time on his 165 and on the rally ride he went to do one and did a wheelie instead. (he didnt crash his so now he is the wheelie king) , anyway the 205 are really hard to get em to break loose for a burnout. I went to burnout on a sand/rock covered section of asphalt driveway and just pushed the front end.
I have 2000 miles on my toyo and have not been able to make it break loose or step out and that is riding aggressively in some really bad weather and sandy roads.
See you out there

Foots Mod
Heres a couple pics of the mod. I replace the stock wheel with the 1800. I had a little rubbing on the goodyear but after grinding an eighth of an inch off the fender support left side, Im ver satisfied with the change. The overall height is about an inch and a quarter over stock.

Foots Mod
Someone by the name off Foot changed out the 15" VTX1300 rear wheel with the 16" rear wheel from a VTX1800. It's a bolt on thing with the only mod to the rear rotor. The 15" wheel is about 4 1/2' wide and the 16" is about 6" wide. 6 inches is a normal width for most stock auto wheels.
For some reason the 1800 is geared lower than the 1300. I have read about some with 1800's that put the 1300 ring and pinion on thier bike in an effort to slow down the engine at cruise. I put the 16 inch wheel on my bike for the same reason. To slow down the engine at 70. I dont know why but Honda's are generally geared too low. This is my third Honda over the last 20 years and all were the same way. When I had chain drive I would change out the counter sprocket for one with two more teeth. Then the engine wasnt spinning too fast on the freeway. But with shaft drive we dont have many choices. The overall diferance in height is just over 1 1/4 inch aller than the stock wheel and tire.
Someone write to Honda America and tell the the national speed limit is 70 with some states as much as 80mph. They need to gear thier bike for these speeds.
