Tire bead goop?
Have y'all ever tried tire bead grease for seating the tires? It's a really thick goop that you smear around the bead and it helps hold the air in the tire when filling it. I used this stuff on Bobcat tractor tires when i used to landscape. I would get a flat and pop the tire loose from the rim just lay the tire flat and put the goop on both sides and it makes a nice seal and its slick as goose snot. also used tire bands to help hold it tight in the center. Didn't know if it had been tried on MC tires

The guy that mounted my tire used it and my tire mounted real easy.....Went back to him for the front tire and he used the same stuff....I think it popped at about 35 lbs....

Sorry Twin, The can was almost empty and so dirty I couldn't see what the name of it was.
Just looked like regular old grease to me. But he hardly used any, just enough to barely cover the bead area. Didn't think the douglas would seat that way, but it popped before I got nervous. I was standing about 2 feet away.

I don't know the name of the stuff but we used to order it from the Goodyear tire store it comes in a 1 gallon bucket. I have a buddy with a tire store I'll get with him and see if he knows the name of the stuff. I believe its the Murphys tire grease

I spoke with my old landscape partner and it was the Murphys. This stuff is real thick and makes a good seal and it's reusable as long as you don't get alot of dirt in it. Have fun !

Re: Tire bead goop?
one thing i forgot to mention the Murphys is a soap based grease so it washs off the tires way better than the vegtable oil so you dont have to worry about oil on your treads making it slick
Re: Tire bead goop?
The easiest is still the starter fluid around the bead and a match! Sounds crazy but works great.
I had to mount two riding lawnmower tires last week and let me tell you, getting those to mount is unbelievably difficult. Anyway, I tried for about two hours using every trick I could think of and nothing was working. I remembered seeing someone mount tires using lighter fluid and so I tried it. I used starter fliud because it was all I had. Clipped the air chuck on the stem, then sprayed the bead with starter fluid and lit it. I watched for about three seconds as the flame ran in between the tire and rim, then it popped on and I knocked the flames out with a rag. Then I only had to add about ten pounds of air.
Had I not seen someone else do it on youtube, I never would have thought of it.
Word of warning, don't go crazy with the starter fluid. Could be dangerous.
