Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus 205-55-16 install

Post  flgarrity on Thu Aug 06, 2009 5:53 pm

Well, I've research this (CT) topic and decided to go for it ...decided on a Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus 205-55-16 only because it was at the opposite end of the CTs listed on murgie.com .. thought it would be nice to get more (than Kumho) experience ...
well the tire's mounted and sitting there with 32 psi ... the install, however, was more of a challenge ... can't install directly from below (the left muffler interfers) ... have a Zrphyr Cycle Mate trailer hitch which would be a bear to uninstall to mount the tire from the rear ... suppose I could remove the muffler???

Any suggestions?

BTW I trying to get the tire on a '03 GL1800 non ABS

FLGARRITY,
I've neva installed a 205. 2 QUESTIONS...DID YOU TRY LETTING THE AIR OUT OF THE TIRE BEFORE THE STALL, did you rotate the top lugs on the hub (on the bike) so that they were at 11 and 1 o'clock (this gives more clearance for the tire to slip by on the top)?? also, did you soap up the wheel and plastic flap inside the wheel well?? I've always installed mine while the bike way way up in the air from underneath. Although they were 195's, they had a lot of room to spare and they went up without a ploblem. My bike does have a Bushtec hitch, but it's never a problem. Also, some guys lay the bike on it's side to change the tire. Hope this may help. Semper-fi Mike

Here is a video of a guy changing his rear tire on a Wing by laying it on its side.

I installed mine with the bike up on a lift. I deflated the tire, soaped it and the plastic and used a floor jack to help lift the tire into place. As I raised the jack i wiggled the tire a bit. This was easier than trying to muscle it while laying on the floor. I have a Bushtec hitch and it wasn't in the way at all.

Thanks robw and marine-mp good advice ... I'll give it a try ... seems there's lots of discussion about mounting CTs on cruiser wheels, but little on the actual install on the bike ...
