How about mileage?

Post  wsl91 on Thu Jul 23, 2009 4:08 am

Not a darksider yet, just found the forum a couple of days ago. It doesn't take long to see why there is better stopping traction, wear and perhaps a better ride with a CT. How about mileage? I have a 93 Shadow 1100 that was stock getting 45 mpg. Added a windshield and it dropped to 42. Added K$N filter, pipes, and rejet including pilots and its struggling to hit 40 mpg. When I ride at 75-80 on the interstate its down to 30-35mpg. Its runs great but the mileage has taken a hit. I worked in the tire business for 20 years and more rubber on the road generally equals a higher rolling resistance although that's impacted significantly by rubber compounds. I do like the looks of the 205 I've seen on a signature!

I didn't notice any measurable decrease or increase in mpg when I put my tires on.

My tire is taller than stock. Therefore, more awesome. I can cruise at 80 all day long. That's indicated, so, 72 actual.

My bike seems similar (even in year) to yours. I have a plexifairing II windsheild, and I think I have cobra straight pipes. My mileage runs close to 40, and I do most my riding on the interstate at 75. I haven't noticed a difference from the 165 to the 205.

Which changes my overall gearing. The speedo is 10% off. But you should know that.

Car tire is taller than the bike tire. Lowers the revs overall. Shadow speedos are 10% off from the get go.

Are you running a C/T on the front?
Where I work there is a permanent radar speedo thing running and according to that my Shadow Speedo is almost dead on with the stock front tire.

It didn't change much (city driving) when I put on my taller tire but when going out on the highway it is getting 2 to 3 mpg better.
42-43 city , 45-46 hwy
when i remove the windshield is when i get a big change in mileage .

Holy shit. Why would I have a car tire on the front? The speedo is off, Guaranteed. I thought it was only 5 off at first. When the only speedtrap I could get to was 45 M.P.H. Crap, It's like talking to my mom about cars.

I went up 2-3 mpg on my X I get 40-44 depending on how fast I want to go.
running a 205/70/15 speedo is closer but still off 70 indicated is 65 per my gps my odo is only off 4% so for every 100 it racks up 104

This was your statement, not mine. This was your reply to a speedo question. Anyone could have read this and wondered if you are running a C/T on the front.
I can assure you I understand much more than you realize. Perhaps speaking in complete sentances should be a goal for you

When I had the stock mt 170/80 15 I averaged 41mpg. After going with the Dunlop ct 205/65r15 I now average 46.5 doing the same riding.
