Use of a Car Tire on the Rear of a 1988 Goldwing 1500
I am trying to get some information for a friend of mine who used to have a Valk and now has a 1988 Goldwing 1500 with a side car. He is wanting to put a car tire on the rear of the Goldwing and was wondering about sizes and type.. i.e. I believe that the 1500 Gold Wing used a bias belted tire vs the radial used on the Valc. Any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Darkside!
+1 guys! Looks great!
I am a newbie to bikes - 3 months, 2000 miles and 2 drops
on my 2007 Burgman 400 scooter. Just read on the Burgman USA forum that the 400 has been darksided in California - as far as I can find, for the first time
I'd like to be the second and have ordered the needed tire; and maybe just in time; my slipper is about worn out. So, before you sneer at my ride, it's not one of those sidewalk putt-putts, I've been over 90 mph indicated - should be 80 or 85 actual - and it's got a lot more to give! And I'll bet it'll hold the road better with the CT outback. Let you know more as I get there!
Thanks again; looking forward to reading from you guys who are 'way out there ahead of me!

Hi All
Names Paul live in the UK, ride VTX 1800C and am a member of the VTXRRA.co.uk
been lurking in the background picking up as much info as i could.
great forum very informative.
fitted a 205x60 goodyear opti grip a couple of days ago.
wasn't sure at 1st as the bike doesnt roll into the corners as it used to.
but geting used to it and throwing it around a lot more and am liking it, now i'm settling down.
a lot better in the wet than the standard bike tyre. and it is wet over here an awful lot.
what front tyre options do you guys run that compliment the CT rear
catch yall later

Welcome Paul...thanks for introducing your self here and my compliments on the darkside! It just takes a little more countersteer to put it into a turn, but everything else out weighs the difference! Just about anything but a Dunlop will do for the front! I run the S11 Spitfire by Bridgestone on my 1300C and love it, but I don't know if it comes in your size for the 1800.

Re: Welcome to the Darkside *** Must read by all members ***
thanks for the reply, with the front tyre question i meant have you guys found favour with a wider or narrower front.
i commented on my own forum about the noticeable counter steering, i actually think that this makes people better riders, it's surprising how many riders don't know what it is,yet they can't get round any bend or corner without doing it. i think it should be taught to all new riders.
as for a front i am thinking of going with the wider 140/70/18 Metz hoping it will give a better balance with the 205 rear. it fills the front mudguard better than the slimmer standard size that you get on the 1800. imo this looks better, with the chunckier tyres

I'm definitely interested in what you find out. I've been wondering the same thing myself.

I just wanted to thank everyone from this board & that I appreciate all the info/tips that are being shared. I'm not sure when my time will come but I am absorbing everything I can until that day! I was trying to do so before my trip to CO 8/17 but still haven't decided yet. I want to make sure I have enough time to adjust before I lead hundreds of women on our SIS guided ride for the Women's MC Conference.
Thanks again & have a great day!!

WildHorse,
Glad you came by and it's a honor to have you here! You are such an inspiration to ladies who ride and I respect you wanting to do good by all. If we can help you in any way....you know we will. No rush from us to join the car tire revolution....the darksider has to do with the spirit of motorcycle and riding.....and NOT a car tire. We have plenty of folks hang around for up to a year before they decide to try it. None the less, they are members from day 1.
Plus we have about 4 ladies here already riding the darkside and love it! My invitation from the OA is always open to you!

Just wanted to say hello and I'm glad I found this site. I just went to the darkside and want to learn as much as I can to stay on it. I ride a 06 Royal Star Venture and I'm sick of buying tires. I guess thats why most of us are here. I look foward to learning more and shareing my views of rideing the C/T.

Thank you so very much twin; that is greatly appreciated & I look forward to chatting w/ you. I'm officially on the prowl for my new tire; I'm so excited! Is it correct that I can run the GYTT 205/60R16 w/out any modifications on the N? I've done a search for the 1800N but only found 3 topics and this was listed in all of them.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
