Keep in mind that final drive might not make 30,000 miles ...I'd pull it at 15,000 on the tire and see what it looks like.

,,my 1st sprocket went 28k miles, prob. was ok but wanted to go to a sprocket with fewer teeth, stock was 44 tooths, current sprocket is on 41.

Mark, Hows that 41 tooth work for ya? Do you do more in town or highway driving? Is it noticeable in the acceleration area? Curious and thinking ahead to my next change.
BTW, just rolled 6,000 on my Federal 165. The guy at the shop freaked when I told him that the tire had 6,000 miles on it. Said it looked brand new. I told him that it felt brand new as well.

Re: tread remaining after 10k
eric,
the 41 tooth sprocket works great for me, my route to work is mostly interstate, however on my biweekly trips to my parents which is 146miles I use secondary roads and go thru 7 different towns, so the speed of travels goes 60mhp,45,35 then 25mhp, keep in mind my weight is way down, I only weigh in at 150lbs so there is no loss on off the line starts, shifting points are different because of the reduced rpms, I haven't paid attention to 1st gear, 2nd I can wind out to 50-55, 3rd out to 70mph. Of course you don't have to wind out the gears as such, but one must take care not to lug the engine.I haven't hit the rev limiter at all(yet).
hope this helps

Re: tread remaining after 10k
Here's mine after 10,000 miles
Side question: I recently had the rear wheel pulled and lubed. I'm expecting to get at least 20K and possibly 30K outta this tire. Should I do this every 10-15K? Is there anything else I need to do? I'm ignorant when it comes to maintenance, but I'm learning.
