Welcome warriorDon
Running the hydroedge myself. be sure to scuff it for a couple hundred miles before getting too aggressive with it. First ride out on mine I got 2 blocks from the house and launched it hard in a right hand turn and made it step out. After scuffing it a bit now when I launch it there it gets "fun" with never a misstep.
See you out there

introduction
Im Rick...I hate writing things about myself!
Currently single, drive a truck for a living, but please don't call me a truck driver, as I hate truck drivers, nothing personal. Have seen some of you from VTXOA and Stumps. Have just resurected a project that was put on hold years ago. I bought a new VTX1300S in 2005, after not having a bike for 4 or 5 years. Wanted somthing that I could push the button and ride as I was not home enough to work on it and ride it. Felt it was a GREAT bike, then the past came back to bite, have always loved rigid frames and choppers. So I hooked up with Ardcore Choppers from Indianpolis and had a rigid frame built for my VTX, before the frame was complete, I fell into a chance to pick up a stgroked 1979 shovelhead that was a feature bike in Easyriders in 1989. So i sold the VTX and couldnt cancel the frame without losing a bunch of money, tried to sell it, no one bite, so it got stuffed in the corner of the shed and has set there for 2 years up till last week. Back to the shovel...worked on it more than rode it, so it got sold and bought a newer twincam HD....wasnt me..so it got sold after a year and now I am bikeless. So the frame and parts aquired off ebay over the last year have been dusted off and assembly is about to begin. I am hoping to have it rideable by spring weather, but going darkside, maybe i can get a studded snow tire if it gets finished while snow is still here
Order my tire today, a Dunlop Direzza 225/50VR-16. Well if ya wanna know anythign else, you know the drill
Later and thanks for all the info

Need Advice!
I am a new member to the forum and am seriously considering riding on the Darkside for all of the reasons espoused, but need some advice from the group. Has anyone put a car tire on a chopper? In my instance a 2005 American Ironhorse Texas Chopper? It currently takes a Metzeler 280/35VR18 and through investigation I believe I can run a 275/35ZR18, right? And discussion with a current Darksider, he recommends the General Tire Exclaim UHP. I ride about 8,000 miles a year. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Doug Altman

Re: Introduction for new members and refresher for us old timers
without seeing the bike or rim I'd say you are about right with the tire size just remember that counter steer is going to be more with the flatter profile.

Re: Introduction for new members and refresher for us old timers
Jeff here aka Huzzunga_Din on most forums and eBay. 53 year old father of two, married second time to a wondeful lady that got out there and helped me install the rear wheel last night. What more needs to be said of a wife than that?
I have been riding since 1972 when I purchased a '69 650 Triumph from an older friend of my older brother. I owned that for less than aday as my father chased me all over town, made me sell it back, and made the guy give my money back. I bought a 1974 Norton 850 (the Paul Dunstall 1974 850 being the fastest productionbike of that year) and rode that in the service until a friend crashed it. I picked up a 1973 Norton 750 and took it down to a knee high chopper. First bike to throw away a lot of money on. I had that until a 16 year old girl pulled out and smoked the bike, and almost smoked me in 1977. 8 days later I bought a 1969 HD FLH full dress. Took that to an S&S kit #5, 93 Cu In, Andrews Close Ratio gear set, S&S carb etc. Then the oil field around here when tits up. Had to sell, and went without a bike for a few years, and then ended up with a 1975 GW and another '69 650 Triumph. That Triumph sure seemd tiny after the Harley. Sold both those and went without a bike from 84 to 06. Picked up yet another 1975 Goldwing. I rode that a few months until it started mosquito fogging, and parted it out.
In February 08 I bought a new old stock '05 VTX off eBay, fromthe Chanute KS folks, almost a coin flip between theHonda and a Fatboy. Nothing against Harelys, but I am so very happy with my VTX.
Last night the car tire went one, new Metzler ME 880 radial on the front, and I am so happy I came across a Darkside post over in the VTX Cafe. This forum and the Cafe are the two friendliest forums with the most helpful folks I have ever met. From people replying to posts, to guys like Larry and his bud offering to mount my car tire if I would only bring it to Olkmulgee.
Every experiance I have had on the net so far has been with honorable people, and I feel very blessed to have met so many freindly, honest, helpful folks such as yourselves.
If I can live up to return even 10% of the favors/experiance offered me in help and knowledgable replies, I will feel lucky to be thought of as one of those those that help out here on the net.
Thanks
Huzz

Re: Introduction for new members and refresher for us old timers
Greetings.
I'm Wren. Some here know me, some know of me.
Lifelong road rider, 35 or so years out there. Wrenched on bikes about as long as I've been riding 'em.
After installing CTs for lots of other folks I decided to try it on my own ride. Went with a 205/70R15 Tiger Paw on a spoked rim. Its fresh, gotta finish breaking it in if the rain'll ease off a bit.
Waitin' to see what my opinion of the tire is gonna be. I ride in a reasonably aggressive fashion and the mods done to my X have created traction issues so the CT is my grand experiment.
