2002 VT1100c (Spirit) here...

Hello everyone. I'm finally making the jump to the Darkside. I just ordered my tire online and have a friend that's going to mount it for me when it comes in. I ordered a "Kumho Power Star 758 - 165/80/15".

My stock tire is a Dunlop D404 170/80/15... and it does not last but maybe 5000 miles (guestimation since I never thought to record the mileage when I replaced it)

Anyway, Does anyone else currently use the Kumho Power Star ...

Dark Side Tire Mod

These are the general instructions on how to replace a motorcycle tire with a car tire on a Honda VT1100C14 (2004 Honda Spirit 1100). I'll go through the step by step. Later on in this thread I can add some color and detail to the story.

Note that we tried to install a Faulken 205/65/15 and it the bead would never seat. You will see in the photos we started off with a wide tire, and the tire in the final photo is different. We ended up installing a Kumono 165/65/15. ...

Had the General Altimax HP 185/65/15 put on Tuesday. Have not been able to take ride until today. I really like the new ride alot so far. I think going from the 80 to 65 has help with take offs. If any increase in rpm's, it is very small and barely noticable at all. Seems to have helped at around 55 to 60 when in 5th gear. Use to lerch a little when in 5th gear. Starting off at 35 psi. Noticed just a small amount of loosness in a few curves in 2nd gear. Going to increase psi by 2lb's until I ...

Loving the General Grabber on my VTX. After riding the Dragon with me, and sliding his rear end around in the rain a little, my dad is ready to try a car tire on his bike. So, anybody got a recommendation for a 1985 Shadow 700? The stock rear is a 140/90-15. There's roughly 1" of clearance on all sides, so the tire has to be pretty close in size to the original.

No Nativity in Washington , D.C. this year!

There will be no Nativity Scene in Washington this year!

The Supreme Court has ruled that there cannot be a Nativity Scene in the United States ' Capital this Christmas season.

This isn't for any religious reason. They simply have not been able to find Three Wise Men in the Nation's Capitol.

A search for a Virgin continues.

There was no problem, however, finding enough asses to fill the stable

I think I did the link right. It's sorta stream lined, (thinner/more narrow) which I hope will look ok on the vlx. I ordered the clear one.

I finally found the time to go to the darkside, at times it was a challenge, but all was overcome.

First problem, How to remove the rear wheel with out expensive equipment ? Solution, find a handy tree and sling it,then remove the wheel.

Next problem how to break the bead, solution, slide it under the SUV and use the the jack, use rim protectors in case the jack slips.

Next remove the old tire, advise to use gloves to prevent skinned knuckels, dont ask how I know.

Thanks for all your help in choosing my tire and hints on getting it on. I went with the Altimax HP and was beginning to wonder if I had made a mistake. I mounted it myself except for the second bead over the rim. Had to go to shop and put it on the tire changer to get it done. The size is 205/65/15 and using Pledge as lub it seated @ 90psi. With only 25 miles it is

smoother and I see no problems. Starting with 40psi and will drop pressure to 28-32 lbs after break-in.

I have decided to fit myself as I`m getting some resistance from tire fitters to fitting a c/t on a bike. Not sure how I`m going to remove the wheel yet, having only a side stand, any tips on that is welcome. Thanks Jonno

Went wide with my next tire. Installed a Douglas 205/65. Really nice handling tire on the superslab. Liked the wide look too. Got 17k miles out of this tire for $65, so not a bad deal. It had 3k worth of tread left on it, but needed a change.

Okay guys ... I'm busy slamming my head against the wall trying to resolve this charging issue. I started a thread on hsn about it in case you haven't seen it.

http://www.hondashadow.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=849255#849255

Do any of you have any suggestions? Stator checks out, Rectifier diode check is good. I have 13.5 V at idle, 13.2 V at ~ 3K RPM, and 13.2 V at ~5K RPM.

Seems like I have a problem, but I can't seem to find it. I used the diagram at www.electrosport.com, and ...

I tried walmart, and they had one, but for my bike they didn't list one of the models.

How to disquise your bike key (not an original idea)

I got tired of fumbling in my pocket for my key, so I decided to conceal my key by making it look like my bike. Only another spirit owner would even know where to look.

I cut down a sink drain plug and glued a key to the back of it. It fits flush to the keyhole. I simpley rotate the chrome to turn the bike on and off.

Do you see the key?

I had a second key made and used a 98 cent chrome drain plug to glue it to.

My bike is an '04 Honda VT750c which came stock with a 160/80 15, but I have been running 170/80 15s to get my speedometer closer to accurate. I attempted to go to a 195/65 15 HP259 c/t. Would a VTX wheel bolt straight into the place of a Sabre wheel??

Reason being, I have a 98 Spirit and strongly dislike the drum rear. So, before I went Darkside, I would rather toss in and partially fab up the rear disk. The original plan was to swap in a Sabre wheel. Knowing I would have to give the hydraulics new mounting points. So, yeah. Maybe a little of that was rambling. Or, if anyone near San Antonio ...

Darkshadow also helped me adjust my rear brake properly, and replaced my drive shaft fluid. It was good to get that stuff done.

New member,1st post.Came to the darkside about 500 miles ago.Couldn't be happier!Ordered a kumho 165-80-15 form local tire man,got a Vredestein Sprint Classic 165-80-15 instead,OK I'll try that. After some research the Magna riders speak very highly of it.Took me maybe 2.5 hrs to get it on and running again,1.5 hrs disassembly and reassembly,1 hr beading it up.Used spray white grease and 120 psi.I think the key to mounting is to watch the bead when it first starts on the wheel and keep it even.I ...
