How about mileage? I have a 93 Shadow 1100 that was stock getting 45 mpg. Added a windshield and it dropped to 42. Added K$N filter, pipes, and rejet including pilots and its struggling to hit 40 mpg. When I ride at 75-80 on the interstate its down to 30-35mpg. Its runs great but the mileage has taken a hit.
How to check to see the maximum tire size to fit your bike

Doesn't matter make or model.

If you are going to try and switch to a wider tire or a little taller tire then you have now , and want to see if it will fit without mods try this.

Buy some kids modeling clay (dollar-tree $1.).

Roll out a 1" thick (hotdog shape) piece , about 12 " long and press it to your tire from rim to rim, tape if necessary.

Get on your bike, and your wife on the back and roll the bike ...

--

I was reading someone's comments here somewhere, and they reminded me that I, too, had an issue of initiating my turns with slightly more pressure needed than with the stock mc tire on. This was when the tire was new. Now with about 8,000 miles, I don't seem to have that problem at all. One thing I have done a lot of, is to go down the road frequently and do the zig-zag so I'm riding on the edges of my tires much more than by staying on a straight path. I suspect this might break in ...

Can it be done?

The original tire is a 140/90-15. I can't find any 140's in the car tires.

I did however find a 145/65R15 here.

It says the rim width needs to be between 4 and 5 inches.

What do you all think and has anybody actually done one?

I'm pretty sure that I am going to be switching to a car tire, but as many of you have found out, it may be tough to get someone to mount it for you. There's a place in Grand Forks called Bob's Cycle shack, and it's as chinsy as it sounds. He said he won't mount the tire but will let me use the tire machine, and I have to sign a release. My question is, are tire machines pretty easy to use? I would imagine it can't be that hard. Any tips from those out there who have done it? Thanks

I’ve been riding for about 35 years. So I’m experienced. I don’t feel comfortable lately leaning the bike in tight corners. I bought the X in the fall of 2005. I’ve never scraped the floor boards. Suffice it to say I’m don’t ride aggressively. My concern is this … although I don’t scrape the boards through the twisties ...

Are you thinking of installing some cool LEDs under your fuel tank.

Did you ever wounder how much room there is between the fuel tank and the frame, or even how to measure it.

This should work on most Motorcycles to see if the wires are going to fit.

First remove your fuel tank.

Then get some modeling clay ( dollar tree $1) .

Make a piller of clay and place it in the spot you want to measure.

I would put more then one at a time.

Hey All, been awhile since I posted. Still dark siding tho (on my Valkyrie).

I have a friend with a 1500 Wing looking to go darkside. He says he only has maybe 1/4" clearance at the swing arm now with his stock mc tire (180/60-16). Sounds close to me but that is what he says. My 205 sounds out of the question, and even a 195 sounds too wide.

Does anyone know of a 1500 Wing with a car tire, and the size used? I posted this in the Wing section too. TIA

In most states the dot has a certain speed that your turn signals can flash,

and on most motorcycles if you change your turn light bulbs to LEDs your

LED turn light bulbs draw very little watts and most flasher relays require

heat of two light bulbs to cycle the flashers, they are called thermal flasher relays, and

thay will not work with LED light bulbs

here is a $10. fix for the "Too fast flasher"

I put around 15K a year on in MN generally heading south a few time a summer on trips to rallies in TN, OK or TX. I think the darkside is a naturaly for my type of riding since the Elite III has given the best performance of any tire so far and it's about shot at 16K.

Front Tire.

I was looking to replace my front tire and saw it on ebay for 62 buck. I also read a warning that "not to use this non-radial front with a radial rear tire" due to handling issue. Then, i remember someone in here talking about their front tire wearing out faster then normal with CT. I am wondering if this may be a factor in it?

Anyway, what is a good long life front tire?

My Bro Ace and I tried putting on a Potenza 195-65-15 on spoke rim. We got it mounted and we couldn't get it to pop. Had 100# in there 3 different times, still no go. Soaped the he!! out of it and it just wouldn't pop. We were so disappointed. Wound up taking it off and returning it and putting a Dunnie 404 back on. We know others have done this with success but ours would not go. The guy putting the tire on at the dealership said next time get a wider inner tube to help it put more pressure ...

Can anyone tell me if they have mounted a 165/80/15, on their bike and if so how does it handle. Alot of motorcycle shops I have talked to, say DONT do it because you will not be able to handle corners cause of the flat surface on the car tire. Also they won even mount them on your bike if you have one, because they say of liability. Can any one help me out before I fork out any more money. Thanks

Tire for 82 Wing , 149/90-16

What size car tire converts to the 140/90-16, or MU90-16 Dunlop size. ? I have the wing with a sidecar and already have the Michelin M50 rear tire on front. Using Dunlop E3's I get arround 10000 miles which is good for a sidecar but I change tires yearly. Doug
